Just booked our flights for April charter. We don't get into STT until 6:30 pm so need to spend the night in St. Thomas before heading to Tortola. Looking for a hotel that's clean, comfortable and close to the airport. Are either of these hotels an easy walk from the airport? Trying to avoid a long taxi ride.

You can walk to either, but they're a solid half-mile from the terminal. Whether that walk is "easy" will depend on your health, how much gear you have with you, how hot it is outside, and how comfortable your shoes are. I have done that walk while hauling all my scuba gear, and I was significantly sweaty by the time I got to the terminal.
I have stayed at the Beachcomber several times. It's not fancy, but the rooms have been clean, the water hot, the AC cold, and they have a great beach bar. I'm not sure what the going rates are these days (for my last two BVI trips I've flown directly to EIS), but the last time I stayed at the Beachcomber was about 50% cheaper than the Emerald Beach.

The Lindbergh Bay Hotel, the old Best Western Carib Beach, is right across the street from the airport.

We have to spend our last night in St. Thomas because of an early flight out. We have stayed at several places on St. Thomas in the past but they were long cab rides away and costly. After doing a lot of research on-line and on here we are booked for the Island Beachcomber. It won't be until late May, but I will post condition's, etc. then. You will be going before us so please post info/review here so we can be prepared. Have fun and how come it's not May yet? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

On our last charter we stayed at the Island Beachcomber prior to the charter, and the Emerald Beach hotel afterwards.

We will again be staying at Emerald Beach after our charter in a few weeks.

We walked to/from the airport each time, but we only had a duffelbag per person.

Island Beachcomber was clean, but I much preferred the more refined rooms at Emerald Beach. Of course there's a cost difference there but it's not an issue for us.

If the price is right..Emerald Beach definitely..it seems to range from mid 100's to high 200's. My breaking point is around the $200 per night mark and it is well worth it then..we splurge and go to " Oceana" for dinner in Frenchtown and cannot recommend it highly enough..

Thanks for all the info - went ahead and booked the Emerald Beach (rate w/taxes was $307 for beach front king bed room). It's a bit higher than I was looking to spend, but we're getting a good deal on our Cane Garden Bay Airbnb so it all washes out. Looks like a nice place!

5 min. taxi ride from the airport but walkable to the Tortola Ferry.

You have to take that 5 min. taxi ride sometime anyway.

We booked Olga's Fancy for one night in late April. Cheaper than Emerald and the others. I can report back, but it looks really nice.

I just booked 3 rooms at Emerald Beach for one night in April, paying $202 a night for the beach front King.

We were going to give Lindbergh Bay a try, but I see their bar and restaurant are closed.

Colleen, where did you book through to get the $202 rate? I booked directly with the hotel and it's $307 (total) for the beach front king bed room.

I called the hotel and talked to a manager. With tax it's $257. I saw it on booking for $202, so she matched that price.

Thanks Colleen - I saw it for $202 on one of those sites too but I always like to book directly with the hotel. I'm going to call Monday and see what I can do.

Just(finally) booked a room for a night before my flight home in Feb at the Beach Comber. It's just me, I'm flying solo, blah, blah, blah. $199/night +tax ($243).

Thanks for the input, if I would've booked three months ago when I first looked, probably could've saved my self $30.
