We're starting to plan our itinerary for April charter (actually our friend/captain is planning this one and asking for our input). His tentative plan has us coming from Anegada to Leverick for the night (perfect!). Then next day leaving Leverick and heading to the Baths first and then to St. Thomas Bay for the night so we can hit Coco Maya for dinner. I've read on this forum that overnighting in St. Thomas Bay isn't recommended.
Thinking of renting a car at Leverick to drive to the Baths (done that before), Hog Heaven for a cocktail, and later to Coco Maya for dinner.
Can anyone tell me how long is the drive to Coco Maya? May decide to do a taxi to Coco Maya so we don't need a designated driver.

Leverick to Coco Maya is a 25-30 minute drive over the mountain.

Thanks Kmon!
Any other suggestions for mooring sites closer to Coco Maya for the night?

You could stay at Spanish Town - we always stay at Levrick and just drive over to Coco Maya.

Rental cars are cheap and easy. The drive is fun and you can stop at some interesting places along the way (Hog Heaven, to be sure).

Nick and his crew can hook you up with a rental car.

rental car is for a 24 hour period I believe- so your group could use in am too for Baths land-based visit....which I would recommend.

Make sure one person is ok to drive vehicle back from coco maya after dinner

And.....this is why we're thinking of taking a taxi now. We've rented a car before and driven to the Baths and Hog Heaven - just nobody wants to drive home from dinner.

From the aerial photos, Spanish Town looks like an industrial type of marina. Is this a fair assessment? (everything's relative, but compared to Leverick it doesn't look like a relaxing caribbean marina)

We felt the same way about driving home too. We contacted virgingordatours.com, and got a very reasonable quote. We get picked up at Leverick, and on to the Baths. Stop by Hog Heaven on the way back home and a ride back to our slip at Leverick. After thinking about it this is a great option for a group of 6 to have an excursion and not need to worry about driving.

I'd like to be a jelly fish, cause jelly fish don't pay rent.

The photo may be misleading
I don't think I'd call it industrial at all
Some people have said they found it
kind of hot and lacking evening breezes
Buck's Market is right there and some nice
places to eat/drink
Like the rest of VG, It's usually kind of "sleepy"

Bucks market is moving to their wholesale location - until someone moves into their old space you won't be able to get much in Yacht Harbour grocery wise.

We just spent two nights in the Spanish Town marina and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had a delicious dinner at the Bath and Turtle. Took a short taxi ride to the Baths. Did some food shopping at Buck's. Got cash from the ATM (didn't really need it, but wanted to see if it worked). On the second night walked to Coco Maya for dinner, and returned via taxi.

The price for the slip was very reasonable -- $1.30 per foot (for a monohull) plus electricity, which worked out to $65 per night for us.

Coco Maya, by the way, was outstanding. Our waitress Rochelle (sp?) took good care of us and was a lot of fun.

GordaGuy has it right. The Buck's market in the Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor (VGYH) is not well stocked now, because of the move. I think Buck's will be sorely missed there if no other grocer covers that location.

Darn it ...we stop at VGHY often -we keep Reef Song in the dock yard there during haul out and Geoff Cook does most of our work ...always loved the Market...will miss the local food /deli lunches and cold Carib ...eating at the tables outside with the locals and the chickens.was part of our must do's....

Like Kim, I really enjoyed coffee in the morning
outside the market.
Practically speaking, I have to drive by the wholesale
market to get to the marina and I can enjoy watching
the marina wake up from the Rendezvous just as well
but still...
