Hi guys, We will be staying in a private villa on Baie Rouge in April for 10 nights. Do any of you know where to buy fresh fish because we plan on cooking in a few nights. Then afterwards, perhaps a stroll down to Gus's beach bar (especially if they have live music). <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" />

Fresh fish can be found at the Marigot marketplace very early in the morning and at Skipjacks fish market. There was also a discussion about thisrecently naming and showing pictures ofvthecfresh fish department of one of the major supermarkets - perhaps Carrefour?

I didn't realize the The Baie Rouge places were open at night! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Yup, try Carrefour. Some great looking snapper (whole or whole cleaned), local grouper and a few others.

On ice right as you enter...

Carrefour is what used to be the Grand Marche in Cole Bay.

Are all the old Grand Marche stores now Carrefours ((so?) or is it only the one in Kole Bay? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

We were in Carrefour (the old Grand Marche) in Cole Bay the other day and they had a great selection of fresh fish.

No, the one by Mark's is still Grand Marche. The one in Cupecoy is Gourmet Grand Marche, still.

Thanks for all the replies. If we get a chance to head towards Cole Bay then surely we will check out their fish. Hope it's not just snapper which is not on my favorite list, but if they have grouper then <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

The grouper is listed as "Local Grouper" and is the fish on the left of the pic. Doesn't look like the grouper I am familiar with...kinda small spotted fish but they looked fresh

I don't see the picture, but if the fish has red spots on it, it is a hind, which is a species of grouper.

Don't know if they available in SXM...haven't seen them offered...but in Guadeloupe we had squirrel fish and they were absolutely delicious. Kind of ironic for me because as a scuba instructor I have spent a great part of my life diving with them and had no idea they were even edible..let alone so tasty.

Oops, senior moment compounded by insufficient caffeination. Thanks, Carol.
