Hi All
We're coming down in May and I'm trying to figure out logistics after we turn the boat back to Sunsail. I chartered from Sunsail about 10 years ago, and as I recall it was a madhouse, but we stayed over a few more days on the island, so I don't know how much time it takes between the basin and the airport....Anybody can help with that?

Thanks!

These days it is no longer a madhouse! - the last four years we have been very happy with Sunsail on this point.

We usually step off the boat at 11am and arrive at EIS by 11.45

When you arrive there is a sheet of paper on the chart table for you to fill in with when you would like the taxi to pick you up on your return...and they do seem to stick to this. If you forget (as we did this year) the chap met us as we tied up on the dock and asked us what time we wanted our taxi to leave.

...actually, it all runs very smoothly. This year we (and 20 others) were in an 'Anegada style' open sided - picnic bench - bolted to a pick-up truck - kind of contraption - but we (and our luggage) all survived! We just put it down to the 'island experience'!

Our advice...leave an hour for the transfer and you will end up with loads of time.

I usually give us about 2 hours from arriving to leaving - gives us time to finish packing up, have lunch and maybe a swim without being rushed.

45 minutes from turning boat in and arriving at EIS precludes any debrief. Don't have a brief for any charter company and don't have a boat in the hunt these days. However I did have a boat with TMM for several years. They wanted to know about anything that needed fixin when I returned our boat. I always allowed time for that and followed up with email. And TMM even if I wanted to take the boat out the same day it returned would not allow it. If the previous charterer is at EIS in 45 minutes after docking with no direct feedback and the boat is turned around the same day.. Imo its a problem for next charter.

...just to clarify my earlier post.

We are at EIS 45 minutes AFTER stepping off the yacht. The debrief, packing up etc etc has all happened prior to this.

The OP seemed to asking for this info, rather than how long it takes to debrief, pack-up etc...

Thanks for the replies. They help! But we may decide to tack on a day or two on Tortola, maybe at an Air BnB. Looking forward to our trip! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

If you're a fan of Cane Garden Bay, you could skip it while you're sailing and spend your couple of shore-based days here. Staying locally really gives you the time to enjoy the people and everything CGB has to offer.

Cheers,

Believe me..that is a great idea. We have several folks who love to stay on land a few days after sailing..they get to see Tortola from a whole different perspective..We are welcome Arnd here tomorrow for a week before he gets aboard his beautiful boat..
