We're planning to spend a couple of months in the Destin/Okaloosa Island area next winter. Any opinions on the Emerald coast would be welcomed..... we would be renting a condo and like to walk the beach every day and enjoy waterfront dining. Any thing to avoid? Thanks in advance, Carol

TravelHat said: Have you picked a rental unit yet? Hi Travelhat, We have narrowed it down to half a dozen condos. If you have any recommendations let us know. Thanks <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

We like the Watercolors area at Seaside. Good to great restaurants walking distance, bike trails, great beachs and good vibe. It is a little on the upscale side but you get it all.
The Sandestin area is great as well. Golf, restaurants and well established complexes with amenities.
When you get down into the single building condos or high rises in Destin you will need to drive to most restaurants and shopping although you can be on the beach and have a good pool area. As with anywhere you need to stay in your budget and pick the amenities and lifestyle that matches what you value most. I like places that the majority of the rentals are more long term so you don't have new neighbors ever week.
