this past friday, i attended a sxmcooks workshop and had the great pleasure of meeting luci frye, pam (her assistant), and boss (luci’s dog).
at 10am, i arrived at luci’s beautiful home and was greeted with a fresh fruit juice jamaican style w/rum, made compliments of pam- delicious! prior to cooking, luci served indian sev noodles/street food. it’s difficult for me to describe, but here’s a link to give you an idea:
http://www.indianchild.com/Recipes/mini_meals_recipe/bhel_puri_recipe.htm it was a simple dish with unique flavors that worked for me.
then the cooking… i can’t say enough how much i enjoyed cooking with luci and pam!
tamarind shrimp with avocado, arugula, and cassava bread. the arugula is grown in luci’s garden and the best i’ve ever had.
apple, date, and asian pear salad
chicken in banana leaf, cooked on the grill.
bananas from luci’s garden. (the banana leaf used for the chicken came from the garden.)
chicken with cashew nut paste(banana leaf removed prior to plating), yams two ways, and turnaround corn.
carambol/starfruit bread pudding
lunch was finished around noon. my boyfriend, who did not partake in the cooking, came back as a guest once all was ready. he was greeted with one of pam’s delicious drinks and indian sev noodles and enjoyed it as much as i had. then, we enjoyed the results. it was incredible, especially coupled with the wine and the good company of luci.
i didn’t include recipes, as they are not mine to share. but if you enjoy to cook or enjoy food in general, then sxmcooks is definitely worth trying. it was a highlight of my trip.
