I recently swichted toT-Mobile with unlimited data. They claim that their network includes the BVI (or at least that I can roam there. Can anyone confirm this? We normally pay the $40 Per day for the Renport MiFI but on paper my new plan should work.

Any insight is appreciated!

I am an AT&T guy so your T-Mobile unlimited data intrigued me. I just spent a 1/2 hour on the T-Mobile website and can not find any reference to unlimited data in BVI anywhere. It looks like the USVI is covered. It does say Digicel rates are $2.99 a minute to call through T-Mobile.

$280 a week through Renport is outrageous. GlennA set up my whole boat with wifi for about the same price.

I used my Tmobile Galaxy s6 as a hotspot several times over two months when Mal's Lime internet was down and it worked fine. Cellular speeds were actually a little faster. over the 2 months my bill went up maybe $5 or $6 but that was voice calls.

Remember, T-Mobile ONLY works if you have the post paid plan. The pre-paid plan does NOT cover you in any of the Caribbean!

As long as you have a contract with T-Mobile (post paid) then your data, etc. will work down in the little latitudes <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

Just finished 7 days with MM and a digicel hotspot(they provided). Going back in May. Does anyone know about ATT and their international plans? Day pass versus passport. We try to stay offline but would like some connection (text/basic internet/email).

I have the T-Mobile Plan. It did work down in the BVI and USVI. I have found that in many locations around the world - the speeds drop to 2G. So, it did work but very slow down in the BVI. Faster in some areas near some towers. I ended up purchasing a digi-cell hotspot a couple of years ago and then just pick up a SIM. It is cheap and works great. I called the RoadTown store, the took by CC and had one all ready to go on the boat when I arrived. They were amazing to work with.

- thank you for the information. The website shows WIFI on the newer PC from Moorings. Can anyone confirm the others 1-3 yo PC's also have wifi?

Friends cruising used T-Mobile throughout the Caribbeean. Speed varies and T-Mobile says 128Kbps service, 256Kbps service available. Google Fi is another option I have friends mention, with faster than T-Mobile unlimited data in some placed at $10 per Gbps.

Someone asked about the ATT international roaming. For $120 you can get 800Mb for 30 days. I used that in June for our STM/Anguilla/BVI trip and it worked fine. In two weeks I ended up using up most of the allotment.

Cheers, RickG

We finally pulled the trigger and are heading out at the end of March on a 433PC from The Moorings that is 1-3 years old. This category is not allocated with the free wifi setup, but had we gone with the newer category it would have been included.

I'm an AT&T customer as well and found the International Day Pass looking to be the best option for coverage in the BVI. It is $10/day and any voice/data/text that I use while in the BVI get thrown into my existing monthly plan. So assuming I don't exceed my normal monthly utilization it seems to be a good deal for the week.

I've also confirmed with AT&T that I can activate for a single device, then hotspot share with other devices without problems. If you look at the AT&T site and find International Day Pass the BVI is somewhat hidden - alphabetically, it is listed as "Virgin Islands, British".

Also - thanks to all of you that have provided such great education through TTOL. I'm out here almost daily for many months and feel like I have a good handle on expectations for our first adventure!

Mark - Thank you for the information. That was what I was looking for. We just finished a week on the MM 38PC and found it underpowered for the wind/waves we had last week. We are returning in May and are going to try the Moorings 433PC like you. Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

I switched to TMO about 3 years ago due to the freww international roaming. Found it to be great only issues have been in bahamas and Liechtenstein. But sometimes I have to search for a better network to get better speed. I found coverage in St Thomas was lacking, but BVI was great, I had to force my phone not to connect to TMO towers when near STT.

I bet we save about $1500/year on roaming cost. Their customer service is great, you instantly get to a human.
The free perks of free wifi and texting in the air helps and the tuesday giveaways are fun.
