bagsarepacked said: Hi...a few years ago on a land based trip we took the ferry from VG to Anegada and when we got off there was a guy at the dock with a few cars for rent. My hubby swears he paid 30.00 for the day. Any idea who this was and if there is a way to get a hold of him? He was such a nice guy we wanted to give him our business again. Where do you all get cars from? Daily rental rates are in the $60 per day range. As mentioned above S&K is a short walk from Potters dock. Nice people.

Manpot said: Dean will always come and pick you up.. Not always. Two years ago we were "late" arriving on Anegada. When I called Dean he reminded me that we had indicated an 11am arrival but said he would pick us shortly. We settled in at Potters for a drink. 30 minutes later the phone at the bar rang. The bartender then came over and said Dean was too busy go up to S&K. They have a car for you. Now we use S&K.

Dean has other things that keep him very busy. In a previous post, you admitted that you were two hours late. He probably waited for you a half an hour or so and then went back to other things. If it was two years ago, he was almost certainly at work on his newest cottage. Did you expect him to sit at the anchorage for two hours, or to drop what he was doing because you were late? Dean is extremely reliable. If you arrange a time with Dean, you can be certain that he will be there on time.

If Dean is in the business of renting vehicles to sailors then I would think he would understand that sailboats sometimes run "late" even two hours "late". He should simply have told me when I called him upon arrival that he couldn't accommodate the reservation rather tell me he was coming and then calling the bar later to cancel.

Or you could have had the courtesy to call him when you realized that you were going to be late. Dean is highly rated for a reason: he is reliable. You are the only one that seems to have had a problem. There's a clue.

Deepcut said: Dean W: rented truck with benches in back... great for 6-8 people. Great Trip around island TODAY! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" />
#1-284-544-3703 Just curious, since you seem to be the most recent person to rent the truck with benches from Dean, how much is it? I had assumed we would use a taxi while on Anegada, but based on what people here have said I think a rental truck would be even better for our group of 8. Thanks, Suzanne

Orange_Burst said: We have rented the truck with the benches in the back from Dean many times. We love seeing the island from the back of the truck. Be sure to bring a towel to sit on, the benches get very warm.
I believe the cost is right around $100.. very reasonable for 8 people to tour the island! Colleen, Thank you very much for the price info. Suzanne

A rental truck will give you the most flexibility, and, for 12 people, will cost less than a taxi. The thing that I see very often with people and taxis is that they have a taxi drop them off somewhere and arrange a pickup time with the driver. Then they want to change their plans - either stay longer or go elsewhere - but are stuck with the plan that they made with their driver.
There are a few rental trucks that can carry a total of 12 people (2 in front and 10 in back). The seating in the back of the trucks is quite secure.
The roads are in very good shape now. The pavement on the west end goes almost all the way to Cow Wreck. The sand road beyond the pavement is in very good condition all the way the the Anegada Beach Club (ABC) because the owner of ABC grades and smooths the road weekly.

Thanks, sounds like truck rental may be the best option. Don't suppose anybody can forward me the contact or www site info to rent one of these? Thanks all for the advice! PS Wmagnum - If Walker Magnum is your real name it is perhaps the coolest name I have ever heard.... but looking at it more closely I guess it is actually Walker Mangum... which is still cool but no love child of Chuck Norris and Tom Selleck!
