After reading review after review and lots of recommendations about being safe etc. It seems it is not advisable to bring along a purse or backpack while touring the island because it invites theives. Can any of you recommend a way to carry around my sons epi pen? I am talking about when we walk to area restaurants at night.

2. Do I really need to rent beach chairs and umbrella to carry around with us from beach to beach? Do most beaches offer some sort of shade? Do I need to worry that the beach chairs and umbrella will be stolen out of the trunk of the rental car? I know you may all think these are stupid questions but that is what you are all here for right? To guide us newbies wink Thanks in advance!

At most of the popular beaches, chairs and umbrellas are available to rent from restaurants on the beach, so we rent that way. Of course that's more expensive than a weekly rental. The sun is intense and most beaches don't have much shade.

Depending on where you are walking at night, I don't think carrying a small purse is a big problem. I have a tiny bag that I use for a few items and don't carry anything that I would mind losing. But we generally drive to restaurants and park in areas where there is activity.

Advice from a 30 year visitor to the island:
Use a small cross body purse or have hubby keep the pen in his pants or shirt pocket.
Just bite the bullet and rent chairs and umbrellas at the beaches.
Lastly- ENJOY every minute of your trip!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" />

My wife's Epipen goes into one of the pockets of my shorts.

Regarding Epipens, be aware of the recently announced recall for a limited set of lots. See https://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm550170.htm

DITTO!! Just back from a 14 night trip. First 5 nights just "the ladies" we rented a car, walked around Maho. Simpson Bay Villas area down to Simpson Bay restaurant area. No problems. Just were not out super late and watched my surroundings. Bad things can happen anywhere. In almost 70 trips I have NEVER rented chairs and brought from beach to beach, just seems like a hassle for a vacation. Different if I lived there. Just go enjoy and have fun! My first week was at the Villas at Simpson Bay. Great stay. And easy walk to Bucaneer, Greenhouse, Toppers, and many of the restaurants in Simpson Bay.

Thanks Kim that is exactly where we are staying too. Did you bring a purse with you or backpack to restaurants and nightlife?

Why would you need to bring a backpack to a restaurant? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Yes, no backpack. But always had a cross body with me. I usually have a license, one credit card and cash, leave all
Other cards home or in safe. No reason to bring everything with me. Never an issue, just pay attention. But have fun!

She has kids, kids require "things".
