In a post about anchoring, someone mentioned an anchor alarm for iPhone. I've googled and searched the app store, and found several, but most of the reviews are from 5-6 years ago, and knowing how fast things change, the "winner" then may be a loser now.

Does anyone have a favorite, for simplicity and accuracy (and price, of course)? Drag Queen, Anchor Watch and Anchor! seem to be the front runners, but would love to hear if someone has current personal experience with one.

Thanks!

I use Drag Queen and it works fine with my Samsung android phone. Keep the phone plugged in during the night as it uses lots of power.

I set the anchor position and distance alarm from my aft owners cabin as I want to be awakened not only if the anchor drags (unlikely) but if there is a significant wind shift during the night that has caused us to swing (more likely).

I now also remember to disconnect my phone's bluetooth connection to the boat's audio system so the entire crew doesn't jump on deck at 3 am when the alarm goes off.

Draq Queen works for us. I can't imagine the alarm blaring over the the big stereo as the phone alone is quite loud. I hook the phone up to an external battery as the app will kill the charge extremely fast. Sleeping in the bow v-berth, I set the alarm for two boat lengths at anchor and one boat length on the mooring. Most of the alarms have been for GPS accuracy. I still wake up, but I do not have to pop up like a prairie dog through my hatch to check our position.

Cheers, RickG

Set the location when above where the hook is set. Then set distance of chain put out.
I do keep phone plugged in while set at night. Agree with GPS accuracy being the biggest alarm. Can adjust this up.

I also set chart plotter to show "TracK", both on my iPad and the helm station. If Drag Queen goes off, looking at the track should relieve any doubt of dragging. Should be a black squiggly line forming a blob... if dragging, there will be a single line leaving this "blob".....(Thanks Warren)

Is drag queen an app for iPhone/iPad? I search for drag queen in the App Store and I don't get anything back related to anchoring.

Jccarr ... I use Drag Queen on iPhone. Search "DragQueen Anchor Alarm" in App Store ... note, no space between Drag and Queen. Thanks - Mark

googling "drag queen" leads to some interesting web sites... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />
