Saturday - it's moving day

All packed up and luggage in the car and out of the Towers on time - 10:00 AM. Goodbyes said to other guests. Hugs to long-time staff members. And we're off!

Off to Beachside Villas, that is, and as the crow flies, that's probably only about a half mile or so away. Enter the secret code at the gate and VOILA!! Open sesame and we're in.

Marvlyn says our room is all ready for us so we get to take all the stuff I just crammed into my luggage out again. (So if any of you run into a slightly wrinkly lady of senior status - yeah, I know, all those words to say I'm getting old, right Brian! - wearing badly wrinkled clothing from being packed and unpacked too many times, feel free to say hi as it's probably us.) and so we're here.

People call this their island home away from home, and while for me that terminology will probably always equate to the Towers with all its little quirkisms, and this only being our second stay at BSV, I have to say - you just have to love this place, and it's easy to see why so many do. There is something so peaceful about the waves crashing 24/7. Well, and there is the occasional 757 buzzing by but you really do become immune to that after a few hours here, although I hope I'm still saying that when the early morning big-boy departs tomorrow!

This isn't a flashy place to stay but the owners have created a Beachside oasis with every creature comfort you could ask for: immaculate and nicely decorated beachy-feel rooms; the use of both baths even if booking a single unit; all the amenities for preparing a meal from cooking utensils and dishes, appliances and even your own BBQ grill if that's your pleasure. But as my DH pointed out, there's no dishwasher. Oh, yes there is and she comes in every morning to take care of these trivialities. And besides, I have no problems doing dishes for two since it's not like I'm cooking a Thanksgiving repast for thirty! Our back porch features comfy padded lounge chairs and a small dining table as does the atrium area where the grill is; and lastly, loungers down the steps and in the sand overlooking the waters edge.

All this and we're only two units away from the pool. Omg! I feel like I've gone to Oceanside heaven. And best of all, my dearly beloved husband gets to watch all the planes he could ever ask for and all up close and very personal. Last time he even waved to the KLM pilots and they waved back.

Whoops - just found the only thing so far that we needed to provide for ourselves. Believe it or not, coffee filters - so glad we discovered it now and not at 5:30 tomorrow morning. I wouldn't have been so chipper had that been the case........

We basically unpacked, settled in and did not much of anything until dinner. We set out for a pharmacy run (gotta' lay in a fresh supply of cold meds....) and then dinner at Marks, but don't you know it - our low fuel light came on so the first priority became a gas station. We headed for SOL - big dummies that we are - and knowing full well it's closed, we ended up at the Texaco in Cole Bay. At that point things were getting a little testy in our car because someone had been suggestion to the other someone since yesterday we really should get gas, but the response was don't worry about it and who's driving this car?

All gassed up we ended up at Bavaria for dinner. It's long been a favorite of mine and DH can usually find something to his liking. Tonight was no exception. I had the schnitzel and he had the smoked porkchop. A Becks, two glasses of wine and one shared strudel later, our dinner check came to about $82.00 with a tip of our choosing added since they do NOT automatically include one.

And just as an FYI with reference to a discussion about this restaurant, Annette told me they actually opened in 1991 which was more akin to what I had remembered. Island acquaintances of ours, long since departed and returned to South Africa, introduced us to it back then and in my book, it's been getting good reviews ever since. It's not fancy or a dress to be seen type of place but the food is very good, the staff is friendly and the prices are very realistic.

And here we are, safe and sound and back in our water side castle for the evening, and we get to stay here till the end of the week.God is good!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the update. Tough choice between Mark's and Bavaria. Do you have enough gas? Enjoy BSV.

Pat, just an fyi. If you ever get in that situation again with no coffee filter, and paper towel will work!
