Good morning everyone! We are leaving in 3 weeks and I am finalizing a few things. We added a day and I am thinking about spending it at Peter. We will be on a Moorings 433PC and will be in Norman the prior day and probably Jost the day after. There has been a lot here recently about usage of the resort facilities. I am trying to decide if we should anchor for the night in Deadmans or moor/dock at the marina. My wife would probably enjoy using a nice chair on Deadmans. Otherwise, we don't plan to use any of the other resort facilities. We will probably eat at the beach restaurant for lunch or dinner - unless you guys say it is not good. Thoughts? Thank you!

We stayed on the dock at Peter the beginning of May. It was pretty quiet there and used the facilities no problem. Nice thing about the dock was we could charge back to the boat account and not have to worry about taking our wallet everywhere. Having power was also nice as opposed to running the generator. Deadmans was beautiful when we were there but some people say the holding is tough for an overnight. Hopefully others will reply with comments. Enjoy your trip.

That's not exactly based on science.

I think it comes from an early scene in the movie Jaws.

We have done lots of night dives and rarely even see big fish.

I have done many night dives, everything is still attached. Yes, fish and lobster are more active, but generally fish are not very aggressive.

Deadman's is where we've caught the most sharks at night, mainly 4 foot-ish Lemons. Diving at night with a light is one thing, but thrashing about at the surface in the dark is another.

no doubt, the best part of night dives is shining a light on an octopus and watch it change colors, pretty cool.

That night when the shark hit the bait, sounded like a tractor trailer broadsiding the boat and bent the stainless steel stanchion. That was no pup. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

Diving at night... well here is what the shark sees and hears. A thing about 7-9 feet long with the scuba fins on. With the tank on the back the diver is maybe four feet wide. Then the beast(me with a tank on) is blowing bubbles... Oh yea I am swinging a beam of light. The shark will find something else to snack on. You can bet on it.

The danger of shark bite in when the swimmer is in poor visibility water and the back of a leg or arm looks like a fish belly. The shark will "hit" what he thinks is the belly of a smaller fish and retreat when he or she figures out they bit on something bigger than they can chew. Swimming at dusk in the surf is the danger zone.

Sharks and night swimming aside, we loved being on the dock at Peter! On our recent trip we spent one night on the dock and one night on a mooring ball. If you're on the dock, I'd pay the $125 dock/slip fee and run the generator. Power costs an extra $70/night. We loved the food at the beachside restaurant much better than the Tradewinds restaurant. Great service, good food (albeit pricey, but we enjoyed it). As a marina guest (slip or ball) you can use the white loungers on the beach (not the wicker and cushioned ones). If you're on the dock, you can use the pool too! We really enjoyed our time there!

Has anyone hiked the trail to the top of the island? If so, are comfortable boat shoes okay or would you suggest running shoes? I am not sure that it is worth it if I have to pack an extra pair of shoes.

It's pretty up and down. Running shoes will be hot, but you will need good shoes

If you have comfortable shoes and you're not in a hurry you'll be good. It's a long walk but not a race. My wife would do it in flip flops but that's just her.
