It's the Fourth of July but it's pretty much a normal day in Paradise. There are a lot more American flags flying and a lot more displays of red white and blue in various formats. At least on restaurant has a Fourth of July celebration (Indiana Beach) but the spotlight is on the Grand Opening of Hot Tomatoes.

We started a pretty routine day in paradise with a trip to the bakery. The Village Baker was closed so we made a trip to with a Cafe Atlantico to get supplies for the next two mornings breakfasts and then headed to Orient. At Orient, we found Paul and Marianne and Paul and Mairanne found Wendell and Cheryl (or vice versa) who then found us. We had a nice visit on the beach. Andy and Cheryl were still not open but we heard rumors that they are closed to move to a new house.

The Travel Talk get together at Peg Leg Pub was pretty much a bust. Only Wendell and Cheryl and we were present. So, the four of us piled into our rental car and headed off to the hot spot for the night, Hot Tomatoes. This is the restaurant at the former site of Sambuca and it was hot hot hot. This was their Grand Opening and they closed the parking lot and brought in Bankie Banks for the evening along with Bulldog and Laser 101. Most all of the familiar faces from all of the normal places were there...many the owners of competing establishments. They had a little more limited menu than normal because of the expected crowd. A wood fired oven prepared a couple of tasty pizzas to our table. Ours was a Portabello Mushroom with goat cheese pizza and Gretchen had roasted garlic added to her half. We never made to the old Sambuca but Wendell reports the interior is not significantly changed from Sambuca days. The Opening was co-sponsored by El Presidente beer and Wendell had a serious problem when they ran out of Hieniken. When the live music ended, we departed and headed back to the Pelican for a well deserved rest after dropping Wendell and Cheryl at their car.
