Has anybody gotten a mooring ball at white bay at Guana Island lately?

I have moored there this year. The area is exposed to both a North swell and any squalls. With a good forecast however it's a very nice overnight.

7 days and counting so North swell shouldn't be a problem should it?

I thought those moorings were private?

We anchored just outside the mooring field there last May after spending several hours at Monkey Pt. Another boat came in after us and picked up a ball. Within 30 minutes, a boat from the island came out and (I assume) asked them to vacate the mooring, as the boat quickly moved off and anchored nearby.

We picked up a mooring ball there for a lunch and Monkey Point snorkel stop last month. We stayed probably 3 hours but not overnight. No one ran us off.

Spent several nights there in the past 2 weeks. Mooring fees were collected several times, not all. Fairly crowded 1 night. Michael who collected fees gladly provided us with an abundant amount of ice 1 day for a modest fee. Because of the Land contour and the channels the wind and current fluctuated.
Interesting to watch the National Park moorings being used overnight consistently.
There is 1 private Mooring, light blue in color. We saw people chased off of it.As GeorgeC1 stated, would be very careful with a swell or predictions of squalls.

In December there were 15 public moorings (white with blue strip). Guana Island Resort also has some private moorings that are closest to the resort. Seem to recall they were orange or yellow and perhaps also a plain white ball.

Baard is correct ... 11 public Moorings recently added. I confirmed this personally during my trip of last month. Details here ... https://www.bvimariner.com/anchorages/other-anchorages/guana-island-white-bay/

Orange moorings at Northern side of Bay are private. At least one of the public mooring balls was labelled "Do not use in high winds or waves, 35' max.” (per comment at above link). The ball we used did not have such warning. Fee was collected by Guana Island Resort. Beautiful, quiet anchorage when conditions are appropriate.

Thanks - Mark (S/V Orion)

Aren't the onshore facilities off limits to mooring ball users?

Thanks. I thought that was the case. Pretty place, but if you're looking for a nice night out, not the stop to make. However, never anything wrong with grilling/cooking on the boat. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

It's still a beautiful stop in settled conditions

I just returned from the BVI. We spent two nights on a mooring at White Bay, Guana Island. A boat came from the resort to collect the $30 mooring fee each night. We had fantastic snorkeling at Monkey Point and I had a good snorkel at White Bay, including finding a huge school (20 individuals) of squid of various sizes.

I've taken a mooring ball there on a couple of trips. And you are correct that they don't want you on the island. It's still a beautiful beach worth a stop for peace and quite.

Last time we were there in October on our boat (monohull) conditions were fine when we pulled in but by early evening it was getting a bit rolly. Since we were the only boat in the mooring field we tied up both bow and stern to two different mooring balls that were aligned with the waves and presto - problem solved.

Life's short - sail more!
