We arrived on the island yesterday to begin our "First Of Many First" vacation. Our day started at 3:00 a.m. in our hometown of Decatur Illinois.
We loaded the bags, made one last check to ensure that we had everything, and headed for our first stop -- Coffee. Once we had secured the go-juice we headed out for Bloomington, about an hour away to catch our flight to Atlanta. We arrived in Bloomington, parked the car and headed into the terminal. After we checked in and cleared security, we began to relax. We were in the system, and now officialy on vacation. Our plane departed on time, and our connection in Atlanta went without a hitch (First time that has happened in a while) and we where on out last leg of the trip to SXM.
We arrived at SXM right about 2:30, and had to deplane via the airstairs, and be bussed to the terminal. this took awhile but we made it ok. A quick pass through imagration and we were off to find our luggage. This took a long time, but our bags finaly decided to take take a ride on the belt, and we grabbed them.
Next task was to locate our car rental guy, so off we go. We had arranged a car through Kennys, and true to his word Mr. Bruce was there waiting on us. A quick greeting, and across the street we head to where the car was waiting. Nothing fancy, but functional, and that's all we need. Some paperwork, and shortly we are on our way. We had aslo arranged for a cell phone from Sharon, and it was waiting
This is where the adventure begins. We are staying in one of Amuary's studios in Mont Vernon, so I called him to to make arrangements to meet us. We aggreed that we would meet in about 45 minutes at the property, so off we go. We got turned around several time before we finaly made our way across the island to Mt. Vernon. Long story short 45 minutes turned into a hour or more, but we finaly made it, and Amuary was waiting for us. We completed our transaction and then he was off.
It was at that point we discovered that we didn't have any water. So I called Amuary, and he returned to our studio, to explain that there was a water system problem and that the whle area was experiencing an outage -- Not Good, but we could live with it for a while (Water back on this morning).
So now we need food. hop back in the car and go exploreing again. We ended up at the US Market were laid in some some basics to get us through a couple of days and headed "home" where we enjoyed a light meal and relaxed from a log day of many first for us. By about 10 p.m. we both fell asleep. At about midnight we were woke up by the sounds of explosions!! We stumbled to the balcony to see what was going on, and discoved a fireworks show in progress on the beach -- just for us, well probably not but it was nice anyway. After the show back to bed for some much needed rest. So ends the first day of our "First of Many First" vacation on SXM...
