Has anyone had experience with InterCaribbean’s baggage allowance from and to Puerto Rico?

InterCaribbean’s website is a little confusing on this subject and their customer service is providing conflicting information. Is it 50 or 44 lbs for a checked bag?

My husband and I each had one carry-on and one checked bag each - both were under 50 lbs - we were not charged anything extra for baggage.

We had a good experience with InterCaribbean and plan to use them again in November.

We used Intercaribbean last month between SJU and EIS and found them excellent ... very friendly. As usual, we had 2 boxes right at 50 pounds ... one with frozen food and one with supplies for S/V Orion ... no issues at all. We also had our sailing duffels which they happily took from us upon boarding and stowed in the belly of the aircraft. No charge for any of this. Thanks - Mark

They charge $75 for the second bag. More than any other airline I have used.

I think it depends on bag weight and if you have more than one bag per person? I would give them a call and make sure.

We have emailed and called several time with different responses.

I think we are going with one checked bag (each) at 44 Lbs. Really do not want to pay an extra $75 for six to twelve pounds of stuff.

Our connecting flight allows 50 lbs. At least one of our crew had enough forethought to check in to it.

Somewhere on their website I found that for that flight they allow 50 lbs for the first bag. We went a couple weeks ago and had 3 bags just under 50# and one at 51# and they let us slide headed to EIS fro SJU. One the return flight from EIS we had one bag over but the scale was in kg and I had to remove 1.5kg or she would not let me check it. It was no big deal I just transfered a couple books to the 10kg bag and we were good to go.
One the first flight they didn't bother weighing our carryons or tagging them. That flight was 1/2 full.
On the return flight they weighed everyone's carryon and tagged each one. I'm not sure of the weight they were looking for but she gave us no grief.

In SJU the counter was not manned until exactly 2 hours before our departure to EIS. One the return from EIS another airline worked got the lady to come check us in. She was quite pleasant and warned us to be back from breakfast at Trellis Bay at a certain time. We returned 5 minutes before her desired time and got right thru security and the flight actually left 15 minutes early like she said it would.
Inter Carib was a nice experience and I would recommend them to friends,
Robert

How long ahead did you check in at SJU? I think their website, which is currently down, said either 45 or 60 minutes prior to flight.

They do not arrive at the check-in until 1.5 hours before the flight departs. We landed on Jet Blue at 9 a.m. from Tampa and checked in for our 11:30 a.m. departure with IC at 10 a.m. after getting our bags from the JB flight.

We just did that trip. Wife and I each had less than 50lb checked bags. I carried a Dry Bag backpack and wife had large carry on and oversized purse. No additional charges.

One note, did have our flight down cancelled about 3 weeks before the flight. Their options for re-scheduling were slim and didn't work for us so we opted for the credit and booked a Cape Air to get there. Price was higher but we had some CC points.

Flight back on InterCaribbean went like this ...... flight changed to 20 min later. We arrive 2 hrs early at EIS to find it's now even 20 min later than that. Head to Trellis for bfast and shopping. Back about an hour before flight to hear we have to rush through security because they're now going 45 min early. Island security made sure that didn't happen but they did end up about 20 min early, from what I could tell, all passengers were checked in so they weren't leaving anyone behind.

Point is their schedules tend to be fluid so check in with them frequently and don't venture too far and too long from the terminal.

We just returned last night and did have an issue with luggage from Beef to San Juan. We have a soft-sided Yeti cooler that was too big for a carry on even though on paper it fit the requirements. The space under the seat and in the overhead compartments is very small. On the trip from San Juan to Beef the nice rep at the counter checked it for us for free, but the lady at Beef refused to check it through for free even though we knew it wouldn't fit on the plane. We had to wait until we got to the plane for them to tell us it was too big and throw it in the back for us for free. No biggie, it just lead to an argument at the counter that didn't need to be an argument and a threat of a $75 charge.
