Most of the violence is between local gangs, usually drug related.

That situation sounds like gang violence, yes.

And gang violence doesn't involve tourists. Until it does. And it will. Sooner or later it will.

Like anything else, you have to always be aware of your surroundings at all time. We make it a point to be back at our villa weather it's on the French or Dutch side way before the bad element rears it's ugly head!! We that we live in the NYC area, we have the best of the best night life, what we don't have is those early morning sunrises over those beautiful ocean waters. That's what I live for. Can't do that and stay out late!
