On July 13 my wife and I arrived in VG for a 2 week stay at Satori Main Villa on Mahoe
Bay. Our daughter and her husband and our 2 grandsons arrived to following day. If you
are looking for an upscale villa with all the conveniences of home, and you must have
AC in the bedrooms just in case, and you prefer to be on a beautiful sandy beach where
the water is sheltered and access to the beach is easy, you’re not into crowds, and you
like or love very good snorkeling right from your beach--and if throwing in a spectaular
view with stunning sunsets would be OK too--I think it would be hard to beat the Villas
on the hillside at Mahoe Bay. Did we like Satori? No. We loved it! Actually, it wasn’t our
first choice. Bellamare was booked. We have been priveleged to tour Bellamare,
Loblolly, and have talked with folks staying in Villa Val Marc and I am convinced that
any of the villas in this development would please the most discriminating guests with
the trade off of views for convenience for the Beach Front units. Our villa has been well
maintained and is furnished for comfort and ambiance. The pool and decks offered sun or
shade any time of the day including during the wonderful sunsets we experienced- some
from our deck and others from the beach. We would return in a heartbeat and
recommend it highly. Was there anything missing that it would have been nice to have? I
keep thinking--there’s gotta be a lot of things--nothing is perfect. The only thing I have
been able to come up with is------a pair of binoculars would have been nice. Does that
tell you something? After 2 weeks that’s the best I can do? So I asked the rest of the
family. Nothing. The firm that books all the villas in that area of Mahoe Bay is Virgin
Gorda Villa Rentals and we found them cordial and helpful from first contact to our
arrival when they met us at the dock and escorted us to the villa and gave us an
orientation. Only one element of our whole experience troubled me and that was we
payed 10% which worked out to in excess of $600 for “Service”. I queried VGVR via
email prior to our arrival and asked what it covered and the response indicated it was for
maid service(which was provided 6 days per week). When we arrived there was a notice
in a prominent place that the gratuity for the maid was not included in our fees. Now the
maid spent about 2 hrs a day in our villa and she was nice and pleasant and efficient. She
didn’t, however, work at warp speed. That works out to about $25 an hour from the 10%
we were charged. The recommended gratuity was from $2.50-$4 per person per day. We
left a gratuity but I do feel the Agent should be more forthcoming as to just what the 10%
covers. It is a lot of money and I know most of it did not go to the maid. The snorkeling
right from the beach was teriffic! The water was calm and clear and there were seldom
more than 6-12 people on the beach or in the water at any given time. If there are any
questions concerning Satori please post or email me and I will try my best to help. We
also toured Satori, Too--a sister 2 bedroom complete villa with its own private pool just
below Satori Main. I would give it high marks as well except that the view is not nearly
as good. You’ll be hearing more about some of the features and amenities of Satori as
next time we’ll go over our dining(in and out) and how we found the provisioning and
one really great find!!!! Also to come--our take on the Nail Bay Complex just up the road
from Mahoe Bay and the road construction project--a daysail and a couple misses--and
more. All comments welcome!
