We are chartering in Oct and I am trying to plan our route. One thought is to spend a day on a beach. I'd like to put on a BBQ for my guests while they sun and swim. Are there any beaches in the BVI that have charcoal grills on or near the beach that we can use?

It's a pretty common sight at parks here in the States but I don't recall seeing any in the BVI. Of course I wasn't looking for them so they might be everywhere.

There are some grills at the Crawl in Virgin Gorda
but I'm pretty sure it's only accessible by land.
Mother nature needs to do some repairs after
recent storms but it's a really beautiful spot.

There is a charcoal BBQ at Spring Bay, just North of the Baths at Virgin Gorda. I believe it was put there by the National Parks Trust for everyone to use. It has tables and seating with some shade cover. Very nice location with a swimming area close by. The BBQ is large enough that two parties could use it if someone else is using it at the same time. Little Dix Bay Resort uses it on Thursdays for their guests, but I believe the resort is still closed for renovations..? It also gets busy with locals on weekends and holidays.....

Bring your own charcoal, food and refreshments. Bring a trash bag along to hold your trash and take it with you when you leave.... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

The previous two replies are of the same place. The Crawl and Spring Bay north of the Baths are the same location. No boat access, though, as the Crawl is called that because a chain of boulders closes off part of the beach and makes a shallow water pool where the locals teach their children how to swim. It is part of Spring Bay National Park and very nice. A cab can drop you off at the trail down, but it is a hike and may not be what you are looking for.

There is a place to the left when you are coming in to Saba, real cute, pink and yellow if I remember correctly. Great beach and a bbq or two available. Picnic tables and pallapas. We and also a group from the MIT flotilla used the BBQ grill on a trip 2 years ago.

I'm sure 160 ppl on this board know what beach bar I am talking about though and can provide a name. For some reason I am thinking it was called something like the Beach Bar or something else real basic like that :-)

The Crawl at Spring Bay on Virgin Gorda is a great place for a picnic on the beach. However, it did suffer a lot of damage in the storm 2 weeks ago. I'm sure the waves will eventually wash all the sand back, but probably not by October. The grilling area should not have been affected by the storm and there are other gorgeous beaches just steps away. It is about 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot to the beach/grilling area.

The Sandbox on Prickly Pear?

Thanks guys. Spring Bay sounds good. I like the idea of letting everyone scramble and swim "Baths-style" but if memory serves it could be rough getting a dinghy with provisions onto the beach.

I've seen the pink and green place (Sandbox?) but I didn't know we could use it. It always looks empty when we go by. It might be a great spot to watch the parade of boats heading into Leverick and Bitter End as they race twilight. I know there is anchorage there so that's a plus too.

Thats it! I dont know why it is always empty, we had a blast there. The bar was open and we spent all afternoon and like I said, grilled our dinner there.

Spring Bay now has a roped off swimming area, so you will not be able to beach a dinghy there. You could shuttle your stuff using a double kayak or a stand up paddle board.

The Sandbox has a nice big BBQ but they wanted to charge us $250.00 to use it a while ago......not sure what the policy is these days.....??
