If he makes it through relatively in tact, he may be able to wrangle rescue help from outside the islands to get the BVI back up and running quicker than not.

He is known as a risk taker and this is another of his adrenaline rushes. But even at that, if he can do some good with it--more power to him.

Stay safe my beloved BVI <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Love.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Love.gif" alt="" />

Wow! I've been wondering what they were going to do. It seems so exposed. But if some are riding it out on Anegada then Necker is likely better than that.

I'm quite worried about all our friends.

I'm sure his compound has a storm shelter with its own wine cellar.

I think I was close: the wine cellar IS the storm shelter

I heard on a FB board that Necker people are OK, major island damage. Eustacia has the roofs off and Leverick has sustained extensive damage to the houses and the roads are impassable. Have not heard directly from Nick. This was via a satellite phone call.

Okay, it's fine for a billionaire to seek another thrill and soap box but if required or bribed staff to stay on necker rather than evacuate or move to better position he is to be condemned . Nothing changed on necker except thrills

Mr. Branson is no dummy. You can bet any structure he has build in the hurricane zone for his personal use is very well built and designed as a duel purpose room/hurricane shelter. When you see what many of the local island population have for storm shelters I would not hesitate to ride out the storm as well. The main concern for many tourists is not surviving the storm but after the storm, how long before flights resume, and the infrastructure etc. is operating again.

Maybe his buddy Mariah Carey can pick up a shovel and help. Tired of seeing this story on MSN Homepage and nothing about the devastation in the caribbean. At this point he's just a distraction. We'll see what he does int he coming days and weeks. Frankly I could care less. All my happy places seem to be gone. Keep thinking what all those people are doing tonight now that it's dark. AND Jose is still on it's way.

He shared some comfy white duvee covered bunk beds for the team in the underground reinforced wine celler.

Branson loves the BVI. he can surely help co ordinate the rebuild and whatever is needed. I for one am happy he is there if only it brings attention to the islands for rebuilds. Be kind people! This isn't about money and wine cellars.
