Thought I’d just post a few days at a time this year as I’m getting old, I’m going to be a grandma, and my memory is getting worse.
Left DSM to ATL no problems. Amazing to see snow on the ground at ATL. Why should IA have all the fun! Thru airport, no issues, over to Michael and Unity and we’re off! Beat the bridge opening, always a good thing and checked into to Pelican for our 1st 2 nights. Had rented a 1 bdrm Old Marina bldg (M410)thru Royal, it was a little tired and had some issues but we had such a short stay, no problem. Had made resv. thru dinesxm for 1st night at Toppers by the Sea. Nadia confirmed prior and we conversed so that I could request a water side table for 4. I had the prime rib special. We are beef producers so Mike gives me a bad time when I eat anything but our own, but I really love prime rib and don’t fix it myself. It was wonderful, served exactly as I wanted, rare. Mike and BIL had mahi mahi in a garlic sauce, loved it. SIL had garlic shrimp. All dishes thumbs up. Friday morning, headed for Karacter. Did not miss the bridge this time, but it was ok as we were the 1st in line so we got out and watched the other half drive thru with their yachts, took some pics (I’ll post pics at a later time). Had a wonderful day on the beach. So much has been shared about Karacter, that it is so much busier than when we 1st discovered it a couple of years ago. Still my favorite. During the day had tapas, all excellent. That night went to the Yacht Club to watch the boats again then wandered by to resort. Stopped at Greenhouse for apps then to Red Piano, some guy playing, very good. Saturday moved to OBBR, couldn’t get into room so went to Phillipsburg. Had lobster wraps at some little joint on the boardwalk, outstanding. Finished walk around and headed back to get unpacked.
Dinner Saturday was the highlight so far. Finally made it to Gutside. Richard and Lourdes are wonderful people, and if you enjoy the true SXM life, visit them. Had by far the best Conch ever, it was stewed w/a brown sauce. SIL had garlic shrimp, I and BIL had the fried snapper. We visited w/them for quite some time then when we were leaving, Richard insisted on showing us his latest project. He is building an additional open dining area that will be his barbeque eat in/carry out/have a cocktail area. Just a lovely man, and the wisdom he shares LOL! We will absolutely try to make it back before we leave (only open Fri-Sun).
Did the ‘round island tour Sun. Didn’t have the impact because I suppose due to all the rain recently, everything is lush thus you can’t see thru it from the car. Still enjoyable. Stopped in Maragot for breakfast at Sarafina’s, excellent. Hung out at the pool and Dawn for rest of day. Dinner last night was at Piazza Pascal, wow, excellent. Had the encrusted sea bass, gnocchi gorgonzola, scallops something, and linguini carbanaro (sp sorry not awake). And dessert, not going to try to spell this one. Shots of limoncello to finish. Excellent.
Now to see what the next adventure brings!
