Just received this email from Divi..

Dear Valued Guest,

You may have heard that Divi Little Bay Beach Resort was damaged when Hurricanes Irma and Maria and Tropical Storm Jose passed over the island. We apologize it has taken this long to communicate with you in reference to your reservation, but we wanted to ensure that the information available to you was accurate and inclusive of an anticipated reopen date and future travel options so that you would be able to plan accordingly.

Although Divi Little Bay optimistically desired to be open in time for the 2018 season, an assessment of the property confirmed that most units sustained some sort of damage. Therefore, Divi Little Bay Beach Resort anticipates reopening in May 2018, if there are no construction or supply delays.

For guests, whose reservations have been and will be affected, we are pleased to assist Divi Little Bay in partnering with other properties within the Divi Resorts Group to provide you with the following options

Option 1: You may elect to travel to another Caribbean destination within the Divi Resorts Group. The Resort will apply any payment collected on the current reservation towards accommodations for travel in 2018.

These beautiful resorts and tropical islands include:

Aruba – Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort, Divi Dutch Village Beach Resort and Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort
Barbados – Divi Southwinds Beach Resort
Bonaire – Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino

To learn more about these fabulous destinations and select resorts, please visit www.diviresorts.com.

Option 2: You may elect to cancel your reservation, and any cancellation fee will be waived. Refunds will be processed in the order in which cancellations are received. If you booked your travel on www.diviresorts.com you can cancel anytime online.

Please note, if you booked your stay through a travel agent or third party provider, you will need to contact them directly to cancel your reservation (according to their cancellation policy).

Once you have chosen your option, please reach out to our Reservations Department by phone at (800) 367-3484 (toll free) or (919) 419-3484, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm ET. Rest assured, we will attempt to accommodate everyone’s request as soon as possible.

Divi Little Bay is committed in its efforts to reconstruct the Resort. We look forward to reopening and once again seeing this beautiful island and amazing location flourish.

Please continue to watch for updates on the anticipated reopening date and progress via email and on Divi Little Bay’s Facebook page.

Sincerely,
Divi Resorts

Barbados is beautiful but IMHO Bridgetown is the pits - just like any big city anywhere with lots of traffic and parking more difficult to come by, not to mention having to drive on the opposite side of the road to boot. But the coastal scenery is just drop dead gorgeous. Bring lots of memory card space. And head to Oistens for at least one flying fish dinner...........yum!!

Pat is right - Barbados is lovely, Divi with two resorts , Southwinds in St.Lawrence Gap and Heritage in St. JAMES.

BRIDGETOWN is worth one visit -it is like Manhattan, traffic is horrendous in and out, bus service to town does not help, 70% of the population either lives or works in Bridgetown plus all the tourists make it a travelers nightmare.

I wish I could tell you but we had a friend with us who was very accustomed to driving in the British way so he did most of the driving. No way would I get in the car with my DH behind the wheel knowing full well we’d be hitting round abouts all over the place and he sometimes has issues with them in SXM on the correct side of the road

I am absolutely certain you will have no problems with cabs either from your Resort or in town and perhaps, given the traffic and parking situations in Bridgetown, the resort may well offer an excursion. If so, I’d take that route myself.

We spent almost every afternoon exploring the island and oh, the places we found - a sugar plantation and factory, a lighthouse out on the Bathsheba coastline not to mention the coastline itself, and a beautiful old monastery in the middle of what seemed like nowhere. We even stumbled across a fishing pier where the local fishermen would sell you their fresh catch if you got there at the right time of day.

I loved our time in Barbados but I believe the Resort we stayed in, the original Crane Beach Hotel, is now gone and has been replaced by mucho dinero condo units, or at least, so I’ve been told. Our location on that far removed shoreline was half the pleasure of our only trip to Barbados. I thought the SXM beaches far superior but the basic island of Barbados was incredible, not to mention all the activities from sporting events to racing and of course, the different beach venues.
