Greetings, I have a potential work engagement to be based on St. Croix and I'm curious about the status of basic services (groceries, restaurants, etc.) and housing including hotels, condos, and short term rentals. I've made several sailing trips to the BVI so I'm somewhat familiar with the area but I know nothing about St. Croix. How are things?

STX was mostly spared by IRMA but they were slammed by MARIA. Most do not have power and it is not expected until the end of the year. Some places are open but operating on a cash only basis. Cell service and internet is limited and spotty. I would imagine that rentals are hard to come by given that so many have lost their homes, but perhaps this is not true. I know that some folks have left the island. Take a look at www.stcroixsource.com as they have daily info and updates. STX is a lovely place to visit and live under normal circumstances, but think that they would be challenging at this point in time. Best of luck to you.

I just read an article in our local paper (The News and Courier, Charleston SC) that one of our local utilities is sending help to STX. Nine line trucks, one service truck, two thirteen-man line crews, and a mechanic to help restore power. The article stated that 83% of the island's residents are without power and have been since September! I was not aware of this dire situation until I read the article as most of what has been reported has been about Puerto Rico and my home away from home, Saint Maarten/ Saint Martin. It sounds like a bad situation on STX at this time.

I have been on STT, STJ and the BVI over the past 8 weeks. Can't speak to St Croix but PM if I can help.
