The South Sound Villa will be demolished to the existing lowest floor which is concrete and rebuilt totally with concrete. It will also be much larger and a 7th bedroom will be added along with 8 bathrooms/showers. I might add that the hurricane ripped the tiles off the pool deck. The only things useful in the villa is the pool, pool pump room, washing machine and dryer. Everything else is destroyed.

That’s amazing that tiles ripped off a concrete pool patio

That sounds like a major mess to deal with

We are working on it. Submitted my claim to the insurance company. Just that was a big job. Putting in the work permits for my workers, Then we start to rebuild, first remove just about everything , then the cement wall and floor will be done. Then the roofs. And on it goes.

Since my claim is so extensive took about 1.5 months to put it all together. My workers are putting in their work permit papers and as soon as that is approved, they will come to VG , demolish the villa to the cement and start building. In the meantime I need to buy a dump truck for them to use. I do have some money to rebuild but not close to the claim amount. Problem could also occur with the bank who will have control of the money, until I present bills for them to pay me.

why do your workers need to put in permits? All workers involved in rebuilds can enter before 31st December last time I checked. You just need to issue them a job offer.

No they still have to get work permits. They have "relaxed" some of the procedure. There is a lengthy procedure. I wrote a letter requesting the workers to work on my villa. The workers need to show their passports, have 2 photos and fill out a form.
What the government originally advertised was really not the actual requirements.

Are you going to be able to get building material on island before they slap the duty on it Dec.21?

No, and I suspect this is the case with most persons. The government should allow rebuilding of damaged buildings without duty. Also true of all the cars/trucks that will need to be replaced. Insurance payments are another issue.

Insurance is definitly a worry. Unless the local carriers laid off 99% of their liability to the reinsurers there are going to be defaults.

Already seems to be delays with a few local insurers in making any payouts Almost as if they are waiting to see the total claims and then divvy up what they have and send a small check with a "tough luck" note, then go belly up .Or the second scenario of lowballing the settlement and making the claimants sue them.

A.M Best has given Nagico a good rating even taken into account the loses of 500-550M. Seesm no one in the insurance business seems concerned.

Hello TPCook,

Wow - your loss and need to completely rebuild is so painful. As I mentioned on another forum, your villa is a prominent focal point of many of my photos. Like every visitor, I stop at the overlooks on the mountain road. After 10 years of visits, I still stop every year for photos. One of the landmarks which "grounds" the view of my photo of the south side is your signature pink villa.

I am so sorry you have experienced such loss. My heart hurts for your pain, and my head hurts contemplating all the decisions you are making. Your resolve to rebuild is inspiring, and I wish you all the best. I truly hope to meet you on island someday, and the drinks will be my treat.

Best regards,
Shari

Thanks for you kind message. We are moving ahead. Rebuilding is not easy but it will happen. When it is done I will be content again. Take more pictures from the mountain as we build.

The Premier has announced he will be considering extending the duty free period, so maybe some hope.

tpcook, good thoughts to you as you go through the rebuild.

We too are hopeful that the duty free period will be extended.

Thanks Brent. Sounds like your recovery will be faster than mine. 4 years to build the villa, 10 seconds to destroy.
Trying to get thru the government process to get work permits and approval for the rebuild design. Need to find a person to draw up the villa design so it can be approved by the building dept.

Have you looked at OBMI on Tortola for drawings?

They have been easy to work with.

I've been waiting since the hurricane to hear an update on your villa as you and the villa have been such a presence on this board. So sorry to hear how damaged it was, but I'm wishing you a successful rebuild resulting in an even more beautiful villa.
