Overview
My wife and I took advantage of the five days for the price of four at N-Resort and spent 10 relaxing days there. It is not Braco, but it isn't Hedo either. The staff is wonderful, and the location is lovely. A big plus for me, was the ready availability of Jamaican cooking. Note that American food is also available.
Transportation
We flew out of BWI on AirTran. After passing through Jamaican customs (no problem mon) we went to counter 22 and were directed to our transportation to the resort. We took a bus, and a half hour after it left the airport, we were there.
Check-In
Our bags were carried in, and registration was quick. Somehow a rum punch appeared in our hands, and we were lead to our room, which was on the beach. A complementary bottle of champagne was in the fridge and there was a fruit platter. We were showed how to use the air conditioner, TV, lock box, and other amenities in the room.
Accommodations
The rooms are not fancy, but pleasant. Classic 1950's knotty pine. There is a mosquito net over the bed, though we did not use it. The bed was comfortable, and we were able to get WiFi in the room. Not sure if you can get WiFi in the more outlying rooms. Note that the air conditioner reads the temperature in census. Set it to 21 and forget it!
The bathroom showed it's age, but the water was soft, and there was a bar of Castile soap. We always felt clean and refreshed after a shower.
Pool
The pool at its deepest is about four foot. At one end it is very shallow as that was the old kiddie pool. You can put your chair in that part and enjoy. At the other end is a water slide. It is proof positive that there are no adult nudists! Behind the water slide is a swim up bar. Yes, they have rum!
Beach
The beach is sandy and a delight. You can wade out for a good distance without being over your head. In case of occasional sea urchin I would wear water shoes. Off the pier you can often see sting rays and other fish. You can snorkel there as well.
You can walk about 3 miles along the beach to the east. You should wear bottoms for the first 100 years as you pass the bar next door, but then drop'em and enjoy. On our trip we say a Jamaican woman sunning herself sans clothing so no problem mon. At the end you can see Falmouth and any cruise ships in port.
Clothing or lack there of
During the day people swam and relaxed in the nude. Walking around was about 50/50, mainly because some people just aren't comfortable walking around nude. The grill behind the water slide is nude. In the other two restaurants, you are required to have a cover-up, though for many that was minimal. For the evening meal, there was no requirement for more clothing, but most everyone dressed up a bit. Somehow you want to dress up for multi-course gourmet meals. Some of the women dressed in sexy outfits, some in tops and shorts. Most of the men were tee-shirts and shorts. My solution was kilts and a tee shirt. I wasn't nude, but I was free!
Food
The food was fantastic. At every meal there is food you will recognize and enjoy, however they also have Jamaican dishes available and you should try them. Saturday night is a big Jamaican dinner. Do try the curried goat. I went back for three helpings.
Some nights they open the Italian restaurant. For this you are required reservations. The food is Italian with Jamaican variations. Quite good but not classic Italian. Then again, I lived in Italy and tend to be an Italian snob.
The breakfasts were wonderful as well, with eggs to order, bacon, sausage, toast, fruit, pancakes, french toast, porridge, and special Jamaican foods.
The grill by the pool is the place for lunch, though you can have lunch in the main dining room. Here is a tip. The fish is very fresh and always a good choice. Steak is a bad choice. Jamaicans use different cuts of meat then we are used too.
Beverages
The bars were of course well stocked with Appleton Rum, but other libations as well. The top shelf scotch was Dewers, and the gin was Beefeaters. Not as high end as Broco, but a reasonable selection. Dirty Bananas seemed to be the drink of choice. Unlike Braco, they had olives for martinis.
I am a wine person, and quite frankly the wine was not drinkable. If you are a wine person, you might think about bringing your own.
Special Events
They honor requests for special events. My lovely wife set up a romantic dinner for two on the beach for my birthday.
Activities
There are snorkeling and glass bottom boat cruises. N-Resort is on the North shore so often the wind precludes the trips. I did take the glass bottom boat cruise, and saw a good deal of reef and some fish. On the way back we passed Breezes Trelany and waved to them, much to their delight.
The entertainment folk tried to get things going. Often there was a water volley ball game, or corn toss. Generally most folk just relaxed. Basically you can be as active or sedentary as you prefer.
Every night has a theme, but the pirate night was the only one anyone seemed to dress for. The beach dinner on Wednesday included a fire eater that is fantastic. Lots of audience participation as well. Each evening meal had live music, some good, some well, not so good.
Will I Return?
Given several things coming up, I probably will not return for at least a year, but would love to go back. The price is right. There were several returnees there, and they have only been open a year. That says something.
If you have any specific questions, I will be glad to answer them.
