Oh my. With your last post we are at least 4 now. Your search for a back to back was like ours except we were able to track down the owner and make an offer. Now we have back to back in the one of a kind penthouse in building 3 Flamingo, Just hope the reconstruction goes well and we can enjoy it again. We'll be able to see the progress as we are renting a villa for three weeks very close by this May. Keeping our fingers crossed that it might be ready May 2019. If not we will rent again. Don't want to give my unit away so I'll hold out and wait.

Brand new to forums. I hope this is the correct way to post. Has anyone heard anything about the Marina Building? The Red Piano?

I called Resort yesterday to inquire about rental of 3 additional days and was told
Resort almost completely booked. No 3 BR available (have always gotten one
the past 4 years), and only one 2 BR penthouse in Flamboyant building, but can't be told which unit. Looks like Resort is doing well...

I own 3 units, M314 and M512 (2 weeks). Am looking to come down approx. 8/01
for 3 additional nites. Due to my advanced age (80), only want Marina Bldg. (no
stairs). Usually have extended family join me 6-10 members.

I'm sure some of it is increased demand from SBR t/s owners who couldn't use their units from September through now, with most of the resort not due to open for another couple of months, as well as people shut out of their own resorts, like Flamingo and Royal Palm..

Correct. We had to rent someplace else because our resort, Flamingo, will be closed all though this year and into the next. Same with Royal Palm. Between those two resort there are a lot of units not available along with resorts in Maho.

The resort is full because a lot of the owners that didn't get to use their weeks during the shutdown are using them before the end of the year. We are going for two weeks in November to make up for February.

Sorry Carol, answered before I went to the next page. Great minds think alike.

Adding to the availability dilemma is the fact that units have been set aside for rentals on such sites as Expedia, TripAdvisor, etc. Trading through II, especially for high season weeks, will no doubt be much more difficult, leading me to question the Points Offering route. Time will tell.

Its great to see the beach is open! I also checked the webcam last evening and they had a front end loader adding and working the sand in preparation for today.

They were not adding sand, they were trying to grade down the big bank that has been building up.
There was sand above the tables under some of the palapas. (sp)

Ahh. That makes sense. Apparently SBR opened their beach up to Disney Cruise lines today. Thus the crowd.

So they aren't ready to accommodate their timeshare owners but OK to have the Cruise line use their facilities. Something smells with that arrangement.

Keep in mind the cruise ship passengers are only there for about 4 hours. They are not accommodating them with rooms. Besides the Sports bar and restaurant (La Patrona) have been open for some time. Simply opening the beach and one of the pools for a couple hours is smart. It provides some jobs and a soft re-opening for the resort services. You can easily see from the webcams that the Flamboyant building is till getting a roof, and the Villas building still has scaffolding and that pool is still closed.

Exactly...."accommodating timeshare owners" and allowing usage by beach visitors is kinda a completely different thing AND $69 for a lunch and a few hours of beach time is kinda up there

Perhaps sell some drinks, rent some chairs. It is about $$$! Perhaps even sell them a timeshare also!

Looks like this will be a regular thing until Orient is back in business according to SBR management. Disney now, who knows what other cruise lines will approach SBR.

Did SBR management announce something regarding this issue? If so where?

I don't see how they can make it a regular thing once all of the remaining buildings are open and owners are back.

My guess is that they will run this excursion until the end of April. With only the Villas building open until then, there should be no problem with running it until then.

The points were still based upon a physical unit - not a "ghost unit" after demolition. We were ,in fact, very happy campers with the fixed unit weeks 8&9 C11A. Now all is changed and access to that physical unit will not occur again, but rather a unit and week not of our choosing. Weeks 8&9 are high season - week 9 is Heineken Regatta (which in normal years results in a high demand for any accommodation on SXM) and the view from unit C11A was only partially obscured by the Villa Building. Again the "leverage" of high season for the C and D buildings was beneficial in fixed week or point trades. Will trades of "ghost units" have the same priority?

Not to worry. Richard Sutton, SBR's Owner/Developer, recently stated that as long as Members request a points exchange 11 months in advance there should be no problem, even in high season. Hard to believe with the vast reduction (3 buildings) in inventory. Who wants to buy a bridge that I'm selling?
