Today marks the start of week two and it has to be said - not sure if I’ll return to Antigua or not, but I sure am glad I’m not at home right now. We spoke via texts to family and friends to learn we have lots of snow and no power again. Or is that still? Not too certain at this point.

The weather here has been really hard to take so far - she said never on this trip! We did hear some rain one night last week but you wouldn’t have known it rained by morning had you not heard it. Everything is green and lush and the floral plantings within the resort are alive with splendid colors ranging from pink to fuscia to red and coral along with lots of brilliant yellows to break up the monotony. And the skies have been, for the most part, that brilliant shade of blue you get on cloudless days until they sink into the gorgeous aquas and turquoise shades we routinely associate with the Caribbean Sea. Even the far hills look relatively green........ you can’t imagine the beauty of the color palette and I can’t seem to find words to do it justice. The breezes are delightful and have been pretty constant and I love the sounds of the palm fronds rustling in the breezes with those cute little yellow birds chirping so happily in the background.

We put out a cereal bowl with some natural brown sugar and another of warm water and before we knew it, there had to be as many as 12 - 15 little birds on the table waiting their turn. One even jumped off the table and landed on John’s knee but not for very long. And the pair of morning doves that nest in the palms in front of our balcony come up every now and then for a sampling. If you leave the balcony door open, before you know it the yellow birds will fly right into the kitchen and to the sugar rack on the counter. The maids refill our sugar when they bring our coffee packs every day and must think we all have a terrible sweet tooth, but it definitely keeps the birds chirping.

So today has been a bit of a Debbie Downer Day. We just got word a gentleman passed away on our beach a bit ago, either from a heart attack while swimming alone or by drowning. In any event, I feel a great sadness for his wife and family. I can’t begin to imagine the pain they must be feeling.

And if you’re wondering why I’m here in my room writing, it’s because an obnoxious group of people saw fit to join me at the quiet pool. Clearly they don’t comprehend the word QUIET - as in Shhhhh. It was easier to give up the pool rather than deal with the high pitched squealing and loud voices and their pool antics.

And yes, we do plan to do some Island exploring. Eventually. Possibly. Maybe? What total slugs we’ve been on this trip.....😊😊!

Respectfully,

pat

Thanks for the report! Will we be seeing some pics of our little feathered friends?

Pat:

If you eventually do get around the island, spend some time in the English Harbour are and I would also recommend the rainforest zipline.

Lovely report. Too bad about the obnoxious ones. Seems as though there are some of them everywhere!

We did get to the English Harbor area and it was lovely but viewing it from above was even better.

And for the record, Carol was absolutely correct - Zip-lining ranks right up there with having root canals and sticking pencils in my eyes. I get nervous standing on the first rung of a ladder.😊😊

Linda.

We went to the quiet pool for adults only again yesterday and there was another group who arrived a bit later and of the same ilk as the people from the day before, and sadly, both times they were Americans. They were all four drinking their piña coladas in the pool and unfortunately their conversation was very loud and liberally laced with F bombs so needless to say, we didn’t stay too long after their arrival. Purely coincidental, I know, but it does give more credence to my understanding of the term ‘ugly Americans’.....

The Brits we were with merely shook their heads and their displeasure was quite obvious as well.

Pat, my friends and I will be heading to Antigua in February 2019 for 10 days. Do you have any recommendations on car rentals? Day sails? TIA

I Pat, Where did you stay when you were on Antigua. Carol and I along with friends Jere and Sue will be traveling to Antigua in October for 10 days. We were there in 2009 and just loved the island. Our favorite side trip was to Shirley Heights to listen to the Steel Drum Band that played classical music. Unbelievable! Hope to get to see you soon in St. Martin.
