I never made it down to the lobby to post each day, so here are the last 3 days...
Day 11 was almost identical to other days – we were on the road to Orient Beach by 9 AM, had roast beef sandwiches at Andy & Cheryl’s (yes, the roast beef is back on Tuesdays this year!), drove back & hit traffic in Simpson Bay. The beach was full of boat people – seemed like there were more gawkers than usual.
We finally made it to Bajatsu which was fairly empty at 7PM & filled up by 8 PM. Believe it or not, neither of us had a steak, so I think we’ll have to return. Don had Maine lobster tails – there were 3 of them – chicken lobster size – and I think they were grilled. I had swordfish which they swore was fresh caught that day & purchased at the Simpson Bay fish market. Both were very good, but not outstanding. However, everything else was – the service, the martinis, the dessert (some kind of triple chocolate cake that was heavenly!) and the dinner rolls.
We walked around Maho & did a bit of window shopping. We stopped at the Pharmacy for some Biafine, Diclofenac cream, & eye stuff that Don uses. A bit of gambling & then we headed home. After all, I had to watch Dancing With the Stars to see who won the Mirror Ball Trophy!
Day 12 (today) found us heading into P’burg. I had to pick up a bracelet from DK’s that I had fixed & wanted to talk to Deepti & Kamal about what I was looking for in March. They were wicked busy – 6 ships in port – but Kamal managed to show me a pair of earrings I lusted after – truly lusted – but they were a bit more than I wanted to spend. Plus I was incredibly hot & sweaty.
Something new for us was lunch at the Horizon House and it won’t be the last time we do that – sitting on the middle level of their restaurant under the fans with a fabulous view of the bay. I had a club sandwich unlike any I had ever had before & Don had a BLT. We both scarfed down everything on our plate. They didn’t rush us even though they were busy, the service was attentive and the wine was lovely. The stairs going down to the bathrooms are narrow & steep and Don lost his balance & fell into the wall. And I think he tore a rotator cuff – lots of pain & he’s not able to raise his arm.
After lunch we drove to Marigot (no way was I going over the hill!) thru Grand Case. I had to pick up a necklace & earrings from Laguna Blue that was designed for me. I just love what they are able to create. We then had a drink at La Belle Epoque but had to leave – Marigot had no water and so no bathrooms! Only so much beer I can drink under those circumstances.
Back to the Flamingo for a shower & a nap - & get some drugs into Don.
Day 13 (Happy Turkey Day!) started a bit cloudy but no rain. Don’s shoulder is only marginally better after we stayed in last night for him to ice it down. We made our way over to Orient and for the 1st time there was literally no traffic – not even coming down the hill. They are progressing on the construction, there’s only 1 really big hole in the ground left but traffic is still diverted from 1 side of the road to the other.
Orient Beach was quiet today despite at least 3 big ships in port. We headed to Andy & Cheryl’s for lunch but it was full & we didn’t feel like waiting so continued on down to Ethnic where we again had an excellent lunch – I had grouper with a tomato sauce & Don had a shrimp Caesar salad. He likes the salad at A&C’s much better, while I thought my grouper was excellent. Again, a very nice beach restaurant, with lots of locals coming in just for lunch.
Traffic coming back was pretty sweat less thru Marigot. Our plan for tonight is to sit at the bar at Temptations & have appetizers & dessert & then play a bit of blackjack – a fun way to end the day. Only 1 more full day on the island & I am not looking forward to leaving. Some years I’m ready to go after 2 weeks but not this year, even though I know we’re coming back in March.
