After last night’s fiasco over my Marigot trip report, I had decided not to report any more about my trip, but I have received numerous PMs today encouraging me to continue. So…

Wednesday was an Orient day. We had originally planned to go to Palm Beach, but when we got to the main entrance, I decided I wanted to go to Kakao, so in we went. It wasn’t too crowded when we got there, and we were happy to get a front row seat. After our morning walk and the traditional bloody mary, we settled in for a relaxing day on the beach. The crowds shortly followed, and the people watching was excellent. At some point during the morning, a group of about 8-10 folks (adults and children) stood around in front of the chairs near us, and eventually started planting themselves in the sand in front of the chairs. I know there are many who disagree with me, but I feel this is completely inappropriate, and was very pleased when the new guy that is assisting Carl with the chairs talked to them and encouraged them to either rent chairs (a few rows back, as the place was nearly full), or move to the areas of the beach that aren’t occupied by beach bars.

We reserved our table for lunch, and unfortunately Julien was not working, so we had a different waiter. Still great service, but just not the same. The special was trout, and we decided that it was probably frozen and not fresh fish, so we decided to share a salad and a pizza. We had the endive salad, which is served with diced pears, delicious blue cheese, toasted walnuts and a yummy vinaigrette. Following that the Pizza Speciale was served, along with their tasty seasoned oil. Add a bottle of chilled rose, and again, “it gets no better!”

After lunch we walked the beach again, and noted that Palm Beach has still not changed their menu. Glad we decided to spend the day at Kakao. Boo Boo Jam has expanded a lot, and were entertaining cruise ship tours there, which I had not noticed in the past.

Since we had a fairly large lunch, we just went up to White Flag for drinks and tapas for dinner, and to say good-bye to Natalie. I had a lichee martini, and David the passion fruit martini. Natalie definitely makes a great martini. We then shared the smoked beef sandwich and the special tapa of the day, “I’m Surprised”. This consisted of a slice of salty ham (not Virginia ham salty, but you could definitely taste the saltiness of it), surrounding diced apples, sunflower seeds, and brie. What a delicious combination! If I had any complaint at all, it would be that it’s a little difficult to eat, but after I figured out how to remove the toothpicks and roll it up like a burrito, that problem was solved. And remember, the tapa special is free if you buy another tapa! A pretty unbelievable deal, for good food!

We thoroughly enjoyed watching the island’s lights come to life, and the traffic moving back and forth….yes, it actually was moving last night! Unfortunately when we left, the battery in our rental was dead. Since we live so close, we just walked up the hill, and called Alain to have it fixed. Again unfortunately, I didn’t have good numbers for him, and wasn’t able to reach him right away, but when I did, he came right away and replaced the battery in the car.

Today we spent the day at Karakter. We got there around 10, and the beach was already getting crowded. We found front-row seats and then went for a short walk. It was pretty hot and not very breezy there today, so a lot of folks were in the water, we amongst them from time to time. As we are going to Grand Case for dinner tonight, we just shared a couple of tapas for lunch, the cocoanut shrimp, and the dates and plantains wrapped in bacon. Their drink of the day was a tequila sunrise, and it was quite good. We had a similar situation there, where a couple of ladies pulled their chairs from behind us to in front of us. The beach boy there was right on it, and was able to move them slightly to one side so that everyone was happy. And no, we didn’t ask for that to be done; he just saw it happening and did the right thing.

Tonight’s dinner will be at L’Estaminet, so get ready for a long report tomorrow <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />
