Sad, but totally expected. And I would be stunned if they were rebuilt as a timeshare. I would expect either condos or a traditional hotel, most likely condos.

If they are going to demolish it and not rebuild it, what does this mean?

My personal opinion is that it is just fluff, to let people down later.

Sad. One of first places we stayed at on SXM prior to purchasing.

This is indeed sad. While I never stayed there, I've seen the units and ate many a meal at the Monkey Grill. I thought it was a charming setting and am sorry to see it so destroyed.

Will miss the Green Monkey. Cool little spot for breakfast or Prime Rib night!

Poorly built? Its not a skyscraper.Just low lying buildings and some townhouse type units.
Maybe I'm confused...

It was made with cheap sheet rock and plywood. Nothing solid. No concrete .

That's why our next door building damage a lot of our cars. Pissed off but that's life and we got a lot of help from our long time clients. Bless them . Been in this for over for myself for 23 years and before was in charge at Mullet Bay Holiday Car Rental dealing with four hundred cars.

After hurricane Luis in 1995 Mullet Bay was an eyesore for years and years and nothing was torn down for a long time. So why didn't the Gov order Mullet Bay torn down and cleaned up? Hopefully the Gov does have that power to order buildings torn down as we SXM needs things cleaned up asap. It seems fairly obvious that The Ocean Club is beyond repair and the lot needs to be cleared which wont be cheap either. Just a guess but I would say the lot will be cleared and sold or redeveloped into some other non timeshare property. We have friends that owned at OC and they are happy with the many years use they have already gotten for their money, any future TS there for those "owners" might just be a pipe dream.

What was interesting in that article to me is that, while the owner of the Ocean Club claimed the government ordered him to demolish the structure, the government denied it. Which to me, looking at the pictures of that 'structure', what is left of it, there is no question that it needed to be demolished. If so, why bother to lie about it and claim the government ordered it?? Now of course, I am ASSUMING that a government official in SXM was telling the truth. duh

The property looks unsafe , that should be enough to authorize demolition. But this is St Maarten .

Remember how long Mullet stayed in a ruined condition? 10 years or so?
