We're traveling to Laguna Seca late this September, to attend an international Porsche Club event, called Rennsport. After that, we'll drive to Los Angeles to visit the Porsche Effect exhibit at the Peterson Museum, then up the coast to Vancouver, Washington to visit friends and family who live there. Are there any must-see things along that coastal drive? Our plan is to spend a maximum of six hours driving each day, less if there's something we want to allow more time to visit.

Definitely make a stop in Bodega Bay CA! Have lunch at Gourmet Au Bay www.gourmetaubay.com However they apparently don't do lunch on Tuesday/Wednesday. Great wine shop right on the bay.Bodega Bay is where Hitchcock filmed the Birds.

Up the coast the Coos Bay OR area is beautiful.

Depending on your interests, some places that come to mind are:

California:
Hearst Castle
Big Sur
Carmel
Monterey
Pacific Grove
Golden Gate Bridge
Muir Woods
Point Reyes
Mendocino

Oregon:
Sea Lion Caves
Devil's Punch Bowl
Tillamook Cheese Factory

There are also several books on Pacific Coast Highway road trips.

Have fun!

Bart

Thank you! I've ordered a book, and will research these places. I had no idea even where to start, so your list is very helpful!

If staying in the Bodega Bay area fits your driving schedule you can drive just a few miles inland for a lot of great wineries. I'd also suggest a drive along the Russian River!

Thank you. The PCH is definitely on the short list. I heard that Napa Valley suffered greatly due to the wildfires, so we'll research that further.

Georgia--Malcolm here on TTOL (TTOL name Manpot) has a home in Sonoma, as well as one in the BVI. He doesn't normally read anything other than the BVI forum, so you might want to send him a PM and ask him for status of things in Sonoma..

I've read many news reports that the wineries in Sonoma and Napa suffered very little damage to their vineyards. Something like four or five had structural damage. If, as I suggested, you stay in the Bodega Bay area there's no need to make the long drive across the county to go to Napa when you have great wineries along the Russian River corridor.

We just returned from a five day trip to the Oregon Coast and it was awesome! Highs in the low 70's with 40% humidity. Great day at Cape Arago State Park just south of Coos Bay which is where we stayed. If you stop in Coos Bay I recommend Fisherman's Seafood right on the boardwalk for Clam Chowder and seafood or Sharkbites one block off the bay on 2nd street for their amazing chowder, ahi tuna salad, and adult beverages. You can read my review of Sharkbites on TripAdvisor.
