We are headed to St John in 5 days and wake up. A little disheartened when we awoke to find out there had been a fire at the power station on STJ. Fire in St John

By reports it appears the power should be restored in the near future, but we all know about island time. So we could be in a funk and worry or look forward to dry camping in a very nice villa. I am going to keep a positive attitude and listen to my turtle friend. “you don’t need no stinkin’ electricity down here”

Carol - you know I never asked...
I have my money on the power will be back. (fingers crossed)

There have been rolling outages on the island recently as they try to bring everything back online. So no matter what I am sure we will be without power at some point.

Living in rural area we have been without power many times before, and as recently as last month.
If you got gas and water - power is not that big of deal.
You were probably in DC when we had the big ice storm (Forget year - Do remember during the Clinton Administration)
It was 9 days no power - 7 days no water. That sucked when it was 20 degrees outside and 3 1/2 inches of ice on the ground.

However it is amazing what you can find to do when there is very little around you to distract.
I am packing an extra book wink wink

Keeping those positive vibes going....

I would bet they may have a generator. I would ask. Your surroundings will be beautiful, at least!!

I remember LOTS of ice storms in Virginia, although I don't remember being out of electric for any period of time there. After Irma, we had 9 days with no electric here. The first five days, we didn't even have a generator, which is really tough, when it is 95 degrees and 95% humidity. We were very thankful for our pool, where we could at least cool off for a bit.

Anyway, enjoy your trip! Looking forward to seeing it!! smile

Hey Tom, "Positive Is How We Live"! However, go to Walmart and pick up 2 of there small folding battery operated fans, we use them on boats and they take the edge off a little while sleeping! Hopefully they have a gen but either way you'll be in the islands, jealous!!!

Beerman--IF he doesn't have a generator, I would agree with that recommendation, if he has room in the suitcase. Personally I cannot sleep at all at night without some kind of air moving.

Not sure there will be room for fans. The goal is to do carry on. However as we get closer that may be a consideration.

And no doubt wine will be involved! A stop to visit Paul at Island Cork's new location is must!

Tom--have you tried to contact the villa owner to find out if they have a generator?

I think we will be ok - the roof of the cottage is one big solar panel. As soon as I looked at the picture of the place again... I went DUH! duh
Did you know the sun can provide energy and hot water... not firing on all cylinders - Need a break

See it was all those positive thoughts made be go back and look at the pictures and read the description.

Its worth checking. Reef Madness in Coral Bay has two power storage battery units. Most places with solar only do net metering. All those nice solar panels may not be there any longer.

We use Luci lights a good bit. They are inexpensive solar powered led lights.

Cheers, RickG

The small battery fans are 5”x6”x1-1/2” and use four D Batteries that will run on high for 4 days straight or way over a week using it 8 hours a day.
It’ll keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Power restored tonight at 6 pm - Yeah!
Cottage does not only have solar panels, but also a generator.
Power will not be an issue.

My intent is to blog. Hopefully daily, if the Wi-Fi and power will cooperate if not smashpc or I will do a single report when I get back.
Either way guaranteed there will be pictures posted.
We have a new underwater camera that I look forward to trying out.

Less than 48 hours to go - Work Gloves packed.

We hope to enjoy the blue water and sun and have an opportunity to give back to islands that have given so much to us over the last 40 years.
