Taxes / Departure Tax (leaving Tortola) The airport departure tax is $20 pp – payable in USD at the airport. The ferry departure tax is $20 pp – payable in USD at the ferry dock. Environmental Levy: $10 per person payable in USD at the port of entry upon arrival Cruising Tax: Paid on the invoice prior to charter, USD $6 per person per day.
St. Thomas Port Tax (leaving St Thomas for Tortola): A $10 Port Tax is required for anyone leaving St. Thomas traveling to Tortola. This can be paid in cash at the Ferry desk upon check in.

The airport tax is actually 40.00. Half is collected with your ticket purchase and half you pay at the airport. Helps hide the true total by breaking it up.

Actually, George, that has changed. $40 is included in the ticket now; you only pay at the window if you bought your ticket before the rule change. Rumor is that they used to feel the airlines/charter cos. were cheating them, so they started the window. Then one of the tax collectors felt the government salary was inadequate and dipped her hand in the till, so back to the ticket price including it!

How long since the (official) toll-collector has been at the Beef Island bridge ? Was the good fellow even a gov't employee ? That's raised a few chuckles & "who-knows" over the years
