Remembering back to those days of Irma the number one priority would be ensuring there were serious, no doubt shelters folks could go to.

Has either side done anything along these lines with new and better structures stocked with food, water, medical?

Or were the shelters adequate for all those that decided to seek one?

People's memories are short. Unfortunately people start thinking about hurricane preparation when it is too late.

There were no shelters scheduled to open on the Dutch side prior to the hurricane. Thankfully there was some pressure from Netherlands and they did open prior to the storm. However, as I recall, they were not stocked or provisioned. Just a sort of safe place to be.

Based on the last 10 months, I doubt things have changed.

Based on the stories ive seen and heard, I would think in the future more would leave the house and avail themselves of a shelter if it was known to strong.

I would think there should be such buildings. They could have another purpose at other times.

And i am glad folks are rebuilding but longterm some sort of building code should take influence to at least prohibit the worst kind of structures. Unfortunately, that puts a burden on the less fortunate folks.
