Well we have reached our last day of another wonderful eight week stay , with a 10 day interruption for me when I had to return home for a family emergency. The two months have been one long adventure of beach, read, sleep, eat, etc, etc

Flight down was with Canjet, a nonstop charter from Montreal. Flight was on time but we have noted that since we have been down here they have had a few delays due to various causes. We will see what happens tomorrow for our return flight

Car rental – again great service from Alain at AAA.
Phone – wonderful Sharon Harris

Accommodation - once again stayed at Princess Heights – we consider this to be our “winter home”. This year several of our friends from the beach were also staying there (on the same floor) so we shared one long balcony, and had some great get-togethers.

Weather – windy, windy, windy. I think I can count on one hand the number of days that the water was calm on Orient – none of the lazy day floating in the water. The calmest week was Feb. 11 -18 when our daughter was visiting. A few showers early morning and during the night, but never left the beach because of rain, just that darn wind.

Norm’s party – great time and I have never seen such a great turn out.
Restaurants –

Daniels. Never tried it before and now wonder why!! Great food, especially lobster bisque, Caesar salad, veal picatta and manicotti. I liked the fact that you can order ½ portion of pasta. Service very friendly

Chesterfields – enjoyed the curried chicken salad, escargot, conch chowder. Great place to sit in the shade – also a good alternative to parking in Bobby’s marina. $1 an hour and just a little further to walk to boardwalk. Friendly service.

Iguana bar – At Norm’s party we discovered that Kurt (from Dinghy Dock) was now the barman at Iguana. We had already noticed that the atmosphere at DD was not the same and the quality of the food had changed somewhat (our opinion – others will disagree I am sure). Because of this the Iguana became our choice for happy hour ($6 for two glasses of wine and two Caronas). We also often had their tapas for dinner. We did notice that the number of people using the Iguana increased during our stay.

Toppers –(Simpson Bay) our first time here. Garlic shrimp with rice and spinach, prime rib, mashed potatoes and carrots. All very good - $71 included food, 3 beers, one wine and 15% added.

Return to the Boathouse. We used to love this place especially for the conch chowder and Caesar salad but have not been for two years because of a bad experience. On this visit we decided to give it a second chance and were pleasantly surprise with the return to good quality of service and food. We will go again next visit to SXM.

Canoa – Tasty food - enjoyed escargot in puff pastry, seafood pasta, tropical salad with shrimp. Quality of service depended on which wait staff you have, some are lots of fun but one gentleman has no personality what-so-ever!!

Conclusion – another great winter vacation, never tire of this place, already booked for Nov. this year and Jan 2013.
