Just booked my return tickets from SXM to SEA through CLT for Saturday June 1. Business/First Class for 50,000 miles on AA. All one day with no overnight.

Carol,

Not Scuba here, but we almost always book our tix one way as soon as the dates become available. And often, based on prices we book our revenue tix the same way. It’s never a problem.

And on another note, we were fare watching for our Spring trip but thought the prices were too high. Overnight last night, the Bus. Tix we were looking at went up $300.00 per ticket. One way!! Ouch.......

Respectfully,

pat

I'm so afraid to do it that way, afraid that once I commit to one way, then the other way the price in miles on the date I want will be sky high! I've never done it that way, either for revenue tickets or FF. I guess that logically you stand a better chance of getting what you want at a good miles amount, because a lot of people like me are afraid to take the chance. We're going to try to book on Delta for June next year to use up my miles and I haven't booked FF tickets on Delta in a very long time, if ever..

You can also look back to see what miles tickets might be in the future for your dates. I do that and it helps me deside whether to buy or do miles for the one ways. This year I paid going and used miles for the return. Best for both pricing and miles is to wait two days after they come out. With the 1000 dollar voucher I had from this last trips fiasco we paid out a total of 500.00 including all taxes for 2 first class round trip tickets.

Two days AFTER the flights come out? Why?

Because they usually are through the roof for both pricing and miles on the first day they are published. Next day or two they come down to where they should be. At least that is the way it's been coming in and going out of SEA for SXM. Could be due to some overnight itineraries factored in.

Ok. Will remember that. If the cost is through the roof, I can't afford it anyway, so would not book if it's too expensive.
