I haven’t noticed any comments about the 10 metre racing boats, and now that I think about it, that would extend back to even before the b itch Irma hit the Island with the full force of her wrath. Please tell me they made it through the storm without damage. Good memories of the actual America’s Cup Races and of enjoying the boats in St. Maarten over the years. I have a great picture on my bureau of my DH and both SILs enjoying a morning workout on the Stars and Stripes. Not quite Dennis Connor-style sailing but they had a lot of fun.

Respectfully,

pat

Not sure of when this was posted but it is from their website:

HURRICANE IRMA UPDATE

Dear guests and friends,

It is with sadness that we report that 12 Metre Challenge was not spared from the wrath of Hurricane Irma. Our operations are currently closed, as our beautiful America's Cup racing yachts and much of our infrastructure sustained significant damage during the storm.

We are thankful that all of our staff are safe, and we are working hard on remediation activities with the goal of welcoming guests again by the summer of 2018.

Currently, communications are difficult and intermittent on the island of Sint Maarten/St. Martin. For our guests that purchased tickets prior to the storm for regattas scheduled during the remainder of 2017, rest assured that we will be contacting you as soon as possible so that we can either reschedule for a future date or provide you with a refund. We thank you for your patience.

To all that have reached out to us with their thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement, we are truly touched by your outpouring of kindness. Thank you from all of us at 12 Metre Challenge.

12 Metre Challenge

The boats were pretty badly damaged but not total losses. They are in the boat yard at Bobby's marina right now. Some of the holes in the hulls are fixed but they need new masts and rigging. It will be a while before they are back.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. Sorry to learn of the damage but at least they survived which is better than the ultimate fate of so many of the beautiful boats we took for granted around the island. They really are a part of ‘history’ even if only to a smaller sized group.

Respectfully,

pat
