I have been following this site for a long time and didn’t remember my account info, made a new one. Thank you to everyone who posts here. So good to read news about the island we love. This is just a post for any past customers of So French in Simpson Bay. As we all know, the building was completely destroyed. But for any of you wondering about the manager and server Tony...he has been living with me in Brazil since September 3. He came on his month-long vacation to visit me when the hurricane struck. He’s fine and good and we hope one day soon to visit St. Maarten. He so loved the customers and the restaurant. It hasn’t been an easy experience, he lost everything. But he’s been living the Brasilian life for almost 1 year now and has had a completely different life experience thx to Irma. Though we’re sorely missing the Island. No more hurricanes plz! Cheers to everyone. We miss it so much!

Thank you for the update on Tony. Last we heard from him was shortly after Irma when he advised the restaurant was destroyed. We were naturally happy to hear he was well but saddened that one of our favorite restaurants on the island was no more. Must have been very difficult for Tony as he was responsible for building up the clientele from almost empty to pacted. We would dine there 2x during our week in December and March. Please send him our regards. Steve and Karen

Thank you for the update on Tony and So French. I'm glad that he is well but sorry that So French will not reopen. We only just discovered it on our last trip in August 2017, right before Irma. We enjoyed it so much and remember Tony well. He was wonderful and made our experience great! I think it was the first time I ever got a hug from a restaurant manager on our way out! We are returning to St Maarten next week and we will miss So French. 🙁

Thank you Steve and leenms. Tony’s great, all things considered. It’s winter here and it’s not easy for his thin blood. Temps of 10c are disturbing him lol. He misses everything and everyone. We’re just keeping an eye on hurricane season this year. Would love to eventually return. The owner of So French has La Terrasse which features the same chef. Also he will reopen La Cigale in November. But I’m afraid So French will only remain in our memories.
