I routinely follow the advice I got on this board for getting a cellphone on SXM island as soon as I land. Verizon has said it will be big bucks in Europe.

Since the most sophiosticated travelers I know frequent TTOL, I come to you all for help as I don't get clear answers anywhere else.

Does anyone have advice on getting a pre-paid phone on arrival in Italy----that will work in multiple countries (Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey (or a few of those).

Just trying to communicate to folks in our group if we get lost or to call the ship if we have trouble. Don't expect to use it much/if all to call US or many numbers. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

I just picked up a local vodafone sim card when i was just recently in Italy and swapped it with my home country sim card (Antigua). It worked a treat while i was there. I put 25 euros on it and still had a coupe of euros left on it. I used it for local calls, overseas calls to Antigua, USA and the UK. I found them available at every bureau de change I used. Hope that helps.

Regards

LOL. Vodaphone kept showing up as the roaming company when we were in the UK. I kept thinking it was "Vodkaphone". <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

I have a phone with an international sim card from Telestial (the passport plan ). If you don't travel internationally frequently , Telestial rents phones for international use relatively cheap and with good rates. Ohter comapnies also rent international phones that are delivered to your home but I have only dealt with Telestial.
