The sxmislandcam.com is positioned at the airport and has zoomed in so you can see Sonesta on the right side.

The work is being done by Chinese nationals. Two shifts/day. We were at 3 Amigos in Jan @ 5 pm and about 75-80 of them walked out together and went up the hill past the casino. I have no idea where they could be staying. I asked Sam(works for the lagoon authority and manages the bridge openings) how many Chinese contruction workers were on the island and he guessed about 1000. I found this amazing.

Perhaps now. For a time the resto was closed except for the workers.

Ocean Point will open on November 15th, however, Sonesta Maho will not reopen until February 1, 2019.

I just read that Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort was changing to all-inclusive Planet Hollywood. Is this the Maho Sonesta?

Great Bay Sonesta was in P-burg and has been razed.

This thread is about the Maho Sonesta.

Ok then I thought so. Well if that’s the case a 2019 opening is a pipe dream, just saying. If you walk through it and understand construction, I would say that 2020 or 2021 would be a more realistic time frame. There is an enormous amount of work to be completed for the 2019 season. This is just me saying this and only my opinion, as I said early on about Club O. Look we all want our island to be back to normal, but there are many obstacles that have to be overcome. We LOVE this island and the people, Lesley included, LOL. I know your watching.

Maho area has slowly been deteriorating since Sonesta went totally all inclusive..... the guests don't venture out.

That's quite a generalized statement.

Well it’s pretty much on point. When Sonesta wasn’t mandatory all inclusive you had guest out spending their money in the restaurants, bars, etc. in the area. Once it went all inclusive it hurt those business’s. Now you had hundreds of guests only eating/drinking on property.

Back in the '80's it was AI then and it didn't hurt the local restaurants. Sonesta owned both Great Bay Hotel & Sonesta Maho (pre their fire) and guests staying at either hotel that took the optional meal plan could dine at either hotel restaurants.

RonDon...just one correction. Sonesta has NEVER owned either Great Bay Hotel or the Sonesta Maho. Yes the name Sonesta was used. Story goes the Sonesta wanted a presence on the island...and it was in the Spadarro's family's best interest to rent them the name.. The deal was worth millions to the Spadarros and a win win situation for both companies. Of course...the same is true with ''Ocean Point".

The Sonesta name though concerning both hotels ...didn't come into existence until about fifteen years ago.

The old location of Sonesta Great Bay is presently an empty lot....
