11/12/2018 - week two, day one
I’d love to be able to report that we’ve set the island on its ear with all our many activities, but sad to admit, it’s a week to the day since we arrived and so far we’ve done absolutely nothing. How boring we’ve become but the truth is, we’ve absolutely enjoyed every single day so far.
We almost made it to Cupecoy for dinner last night - we both were tasting a Fat Tony’s Pizza - but as we waited for the security gate here at BSV to open we decided we really didn’t want to take our trusty R14 through White Sands Lake so we pulled out and immediately turned in to El Zafiro and had dinner there. DH has fallen in love with a mussel appetizer they have on their menu and I’m almost always good for a chicken Cesar Salad so it was all good. Only thing is, if we had planned better we could have walked. Nah! Then it would have rained for sure.
We started out for Mullet this morning but the rain came and we decided to enjoy our pool and beach and neighbors again.
Tonight we left for dinner with no particular spot in mind - maybe Le Moulin Fou in the unlikely event we could find convenient parking, and if not we could attempt that pizza we didn’t get to last night and if all else failed, there was bound to be something inviting at Porto Cupecoy. Neither one of us could believe it when we snagged the last spot behind Moulin Fou - lucky us.
And even luckier yet was running into internet friends I’d been hoping to meet in real time for a long time. So nice to finally meet you, Joyce. And now I stand at two down and one to go - looking for Linda Lehman and I’ll be batting a thousand for this trip. Karen, Joyce and hopefully, Linda yet to come. And about half way through our dinner, Max from one of the CG family of jewelry stores came in. By the time we left, every seat in the house was taken, mostly with French locals, so I guess it was a good choice.
Dinner at Moulin Fou is always delicious. We thought - briefly - about dining outside but given our track record with the rain we chose indoor seating. About half way through our dinner - broiled sea scallops and lobster Thermidor - it started to pour again. Dinner was perfection and by the time we were ready to leave the rain had stopped. Of course it had stopped since this time I remembered to bring my umbrella to dinner, unlike the other night when I forgot it and we both got soaked.
Headed home only to find White Sands Lake has gotten a little wider, but as long as you creep through it and exercise courtesy towards the on-coming traffic, no problem, mon.
And thus ends another perfect islon day.
Respectfully,
pat

It is neat to meet internet friends in person, and we're really looking forward to our 12/2 get-together. You sound as if you're enjoying your trip in spite of all the rain. Thanks for the updates,
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

It was really just a quick hello as he came in with a large group. I thought it was him but wasn’t certain and then he came over to our table. Big hugs and before any real conversation our first course arrived. Meant to say good night but it was still raining and the waiter allowed us to leave through the back door into the alley where we were parked and since they were very busy and he was escorting us out, we didn’t have the heart to hold him up.
It was so nice to see every table in the house spoken for. The waiters were busy but they were all smiling! And as is always the case, the food was absolutely delicious!
Respectfully,
pat

Pat--it sounds like you are making lemonade from lemons, but your weather sure hasn't been good! And apparently the next two days will be likewise! It is always good to put faces with internet names, so much fun! I wish they would do something about Lake White Sands, as sometimes it is really ridiculous. One time we were on island, our car rental guy warned us specifically that someone had damaged one of his cars driving through there as there was a huge hole that you didn't know was there, under the water, and damaged the car tire rim.

No lemonade but merely dealing with the reality of the situation. The rain, other than Saturday night, has honestly not been a problem. We’re tent campers, remember. There are things you can control and others you just have to make the best of. If a twenty-four hour day offers fifteen minutes of rain it’s really not the end of my world. I’m here in paradise and my philosophy is pretty much, ‘this too shall pass’ And it does and the sun returns. Now if it rained four three days straight I would be singing another tune for sure.
I think the hole you are talking about is still there. There’s an orange road hazard cone thingy there in the road but the water’s so deep the cars make waves and the waves keep tipping it over and washing it away. We’ve gone through there a bunch of times for the obvious reason. If you go slow and really take your time, beyond being a little nerve-wracking, you’ll be okay. I’ve watched a few yahoos go flying through there and if they had issues I’d have no sympathy for them but pretty much everyone is very considerate of their fellow travelers since we’re all enduring the same situation. I do feel for Lesley and the other car rental concerns along this road since it’s got to make their business situations a little more problematic.
Respectfully,
pat

OK, I was thinking you hade more rain than that. The next two days might be pretty bad though, with that tropical wave out there. We have been on island twice when we had DAYS of rain. Second time was at Beachside, about 2014 and that wasn't so bad. First time was pre 2000 and we were staying at Club O, no TV, no computer except to go pay up at the office, staying in a cramped little studio. THAT was miserable! That was the only time we were literally happy to go home.
You're right, I'm sure Lesley and the other car rental guys along there are not happy campers with that road. They need to fix it. Can't imagine living along there and having to deal with that any time it rains. It's an inconvenience for tourists, but someone living there must really hate it.

((Two down, one to go? Humph! Should I be insulted? lol)) Sounds as if you are really getting into limin' Lady. Wonderful that Moulin Fou opened in time for you to visit. It opened on our last night last week, but we wanted to go to Sale e Pepe and are very glad that we didn't switch. Though I do regret having missed the Fou.

Leona,
I’m so sorry for omitting you from my ‘meet and greet’ list. I thought I’d already commented about our meeting in last weeks comments. Truth is, I think I did while we were still at El Zafiro but the internet there was very poor in our room and things kept failing to post. And then, I got confused as to what did and didn’t actually get posted.
In any event, after years of knowing her without ever having met her, I finally got to meet Leona and her husband, Andre, in real time the first night we arrived on the island. They were departing the next day so it was that night or not at all and they kindly joined us at the bar at El Zafiro that night. In fact, I believe in the end it was Andre’s treat - even nicer!! It was great finally meeting you both after all the shared thoughts and messages and Towers issues.......and then there were magnets though I’m still not totally convinced about those wind chimes.....
Hopefully our shared island pleasures will allow our paths to cross again down the road.
Respectfully,
pat
