Our trip actually started on Friday, June 1st when we left Atlanta for Charlotte, NC. We saved about $800 flying out of Douglas, the 3 1/2 hour drive was worth it, especially with 2 weeks of parking free for one night's stay at the Red Roof Inn just outside the airport ($79).
Woke up before the alarm at 5:30, had a danish and coffee in the lobby and caught the shuttle right on time. The quickest Customs process we've been through Princess Juliana. Met Lesley with Kenny's car rental after a 15 minute wait- he had the Corolla air conditioning blasting and after quickly taking car of business we were in our way to Flamingo! I can't say enough about the incredible service Lesley has provided us in our 3 trips to the island. I told him that we had a 9:30am flight the following Saturday from Grand Case airport and he told us to pick him up at his home in Beacon Hill and he would drive us there. That's above and beyond! Unfortunately, he hit a post in the parking lot and the front plastic piece under the radiator got dislodged and I later had to take it off completely as it was dragging under the car. But all was good.
Checked in early 3ish, to 7106 facing the bay and Pelican, with a little balcony, very nice studio. Lynn read on the balcony while I set out for provisions. Stopped by the BBB for a quick 1st libation in the tropics. Picked up a case of Caribs, rhum, tequila, and oh yeah, some food too.
I had read about the White Flag in TTOL, so we headed out for there just before sunset. Stopped into the Deli Mart below the White Flag before. Went into the deserted building, took the elevator up and found ourselves alone in the restaurant. We took a table in the front of the place nearest the street and started taking in a spectacular view. We were greeted by the owner, Natalie, who was very kind, and she recommended the Montreal Beef, marinaded 30 days and smoked for 7 days. We split a sandwich and it was truly wonderful, very, very tasty! We had a few drinks and after the sun went down a wedding procession rolled by below honking their horns and waving to everyone, the bride still in her gown. We had a great time there, just the 2 of us. I hope Natalie does well, she deserves the support. The building itself is in disarray with water leaking onto the bottom floor.
Went to the SSBB afterwards, had a quick drink and back to Flamingo. Lynn went to bed, but I was still restless, so I went back to the BBB, then walked across the beach to another bar that had a live band outside, good entertainment. Headed back to cook a bratwurst on the grill outside the studio, but couldn't get the Matchlite to burn. No late night dinner, but a great 1st day. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" />
