Currently in Tortola & was speaking with a local person. Talking about how employers treated their people after the hurricane. Evidently Myett did a Go Fund Me for her employees. Sounds great but she kept all the money & never gave to the employees. Employees are now suing Myett. Sad! I personally will not frequent a restaurant where the owner exhibits disgraceful behavior toward their employees. Although it is now 1 year plus after the hurricane, there are still a lot of people struggling.

gracie5 Who is this “local person”? With a public accusation like that more substantial facts - or at least the name of the person making the statement - should be included in your post.
Val & Kareem are the owners, and we always thought Val was very caring and generous toward her employees.
Malcolm you are close, do you know anything about this?

I have heard both sides of this story and am staying away from it! BTW the Rhymers, Val, Kareem and Sandman are the owners of " Myett's"..related to Quito who dropped the "h" and Patsy at Rhymer's down the beach ( back in business and better than ever BTW..she was married to the late, great, James Rhymer). I do know the employees and the family are heading to court over this but, important to know as said, there are two sides..

Understood.
Is Prince still there? We haven’t stayed there in some time and last time we stopped at the bar we were told he left on bad terms? Hopefully I have that wrong...

I have not posted in a long time. I cannot sit back and watch as the poster makes a slanderous statement, based on hearsay, which is patently false . Both the poster and TTOL management should be held liable for the content of the post and willfully allowing it to remain.
The lawsuit has nothing to do with Go Fund Me. Here is the lawsuit information http://bvibeacon.com/former-myetts-workers-sue-for-severance/

Both the OP and TTOL owe a public apology for the original post at minimum.

I have been ask by Val to post the following:

Quote
I raised money for my staff through go fund me and purchased lots of items I thought they would appreciate having to help them through the disaster. I shipped them down from Miami and the items were distributed. Unfortunately some of the items got lost at the port and there were delays in shipping due to Maria but most of the items made it. We set up a store of the items and the employees came in and took what they wanted. We gave out generators to those that needed them the most, lots of battery operated chargers, fans, mosquito netting, lights, batteries, food, etc. There was a lot of things that were helpful for those without electricity and those who lost much. We also gave out donated clothing, shoes, towels, linens, etc… In addition all of the employees received a check in the amount of over $800 each and higher amounts to those that were suffering the most. We shared between over 30 employees with nothing out of the fund raiser going to ourselves. Most of the employees were very thankful however, some of them believed they should have gotten more and did not appreciate all the effort that went into the fund raising and the kind donations that so many caring people sent. And most of the ones who were negative, spiteful, and making false accusations were the ones who were living in rented apartments with minimal damage with generators and able to find other jobs.

It has been a very stressful year for all of us. I feel for the employees and everyone that are struggling and feel they are ‘entitled’ to the point that they are slandering us after they were gainfully employed by us for years. We never missed a paycheck in 25 years and I never kept a penny of the money that I was worked very hard at and was able to raise for the employees that we truly cared about. They benefited from all of it, not us. The post that Gracie5 made is simply not true and is local gossip that I’m sure some of the staff with ‘entitlement’ issues started. It is really sad and hurtful. I hope you will take it down.

After over a year, we are finally re-opening our hotel tomorrow! We still have some work to do around the property but the rooms turned out really nice and I think the guests will love them. I would like to advertise with you again.

As for the bar and restaurant… we have entered a joint agreement with Pussers. They are helping us build it back and will take over management very soon. We are still involved and the menu will still have Myett’s best items including crack conch, conch chowder, conch fritters, Myett’s famous BBQ, grilled lobster, and much more. I will still be doing the weddings and events. I am moving my gift shop back over to the office area where we originally opened and Pussers will have a company store where my shop is now. There will be nice showers and nice new restrooms.

I agree there are certainly always 2 sides to every story. I am a humanitarian volunteer for an organization that helps thousands of people every year. I usually volunteer at the temporary shelters put up for victims that need immediate help. Most victims are thankful, humble and appreciate everything the donors and volunteers do for them. However there are always a small group of people that never appreciate everything the volunteers and donors do, and always want more. They are the same group of people in every society that thinks certain things are always owed to them in life and not earned. After hearing the owners response, I believe that to be true about this same group, only because I have experienced this "group" of people in every part of the world. It's sad but unfortunately true that you can not make everyone happy and there will always be people that think everything is "owed" to them. In my experience, every successful business is only able to stay that way by how they treat their employees. Period. If this business is able to reopen and have staff to do so, it is probably because of their reputation and their employee's voices.

As Malcolm said, there are two sides to every story - that's what courts are for. As for me, I will be in the BVI for the first time in my life for NYE and, as an attorney, I want to be as far away from courts or issues that need to be resolved by courts as I can. I will be staying at Rhymers in CGB from 12/28 through 1/2 and will be looking forward to meeting Val and the other folks at Myett's as well as the other fine establishments and people of CGB and Tortola. 31 days and counting!

Despite Hillside's statement, we are not responsible for the content of posts in this circumstance. However, as was pointed out, the lawsuit has nothing to do with the allegations made in the original post, but severance pay, which is a totally different question. Personally, I agree with WineFusion's post, and I accept Val's explanation . Regardless, it's time to end this particular thread.
