Hello all. Have been reading some stuff on facebook and other sxm sites with regards to the very loud music every night in the Kim Sha Beach area. People staying at SBR and Atrium area are saying there is loud obnoxious music playing into the wee hours most nights? From what I have read, it seems to be either coming from parked cars,,,or the lolos in and around Royal Palm over towards Greenhouse and Buccaneer beach bar. Of course I am not on island and am only going by what I read. As I have said, this year, for the first time we are staying above the Greenhouse in an apartment penthouse with a lot of outdoor patio area. We are not early to bed people, and we like to live it up, but from what I am reading it sounds extreme. Maybe ear plugs are going to be required?? I am wonderieng if people are just exagerrating the actual situation. Has anyone stayed at the Atrium or in that specific area just recently? Is it true that we will have to listen to several car stereos blasting bass beats all night? When we are on holidays, music from bars etc do not bother us. Bars close and usually music stops. We don't have to be in bed at 12 midnight with total silence, lol....that is not what I mean. But constant blaring of several different stereos into the wee hours, might get a bit tiring if this goes on every night. Would be interested in feedback. Thanks in advance.

I'd also like to hear comments on this issue. We'll be there next month. I was so happy to hear that the Regatta parties were moved because the noise was so horrible for three nights in a row. Sounds like it may be a more permanent issue now.

May be if enough people that are affected go and discuss this with the offending party they might correct it. Or try and get the Atrium management go to bat for you.

From what I am reading it is a terrible situation. I would assume possibly contacting the police if the noise persists all hours of the night while you are vacationing is the only solution?? Let's face it,,,being on vacation you expect music, loud at times, etc.etc. But people are saying they hear it all night and it's peoplel with their cars and booming stereos gathering to party. The other I have read about is some rib place with music so loud that nearby establishments are losing customers even during the day because patrons cannot stand the loud constant music. You would think all the businesses nearby, resorts included would be filing complaints? Dunno, but sure am worried about our stay in January. Guess time will tell......

I believe they were referencing the establishment that used to be or still is Captain D's. It is a shack in the lot between Royal Palm and Topper's. From what I recall, it was one or two posters making noise about the noise and there has been no more stated to this time. What is happening now with anything on the island could be different tomorrow and especially going into another month down the road.

Perhaps the people complaining got through to someone or I am sure they would still be complaining.

You are staying in an area with a lot of restaurants and bars, I would expect there would be some noise

I didn't realize that Captain D's was open late at night? I do wonder what the noise situation will be like from Roxxy Beach though?? It's supposed to open in January, I think.

No idea but from what I could put together of the conversation, it sounded like they were referring to Captain D's or that area. It was a week or two ago and on a Sunday night I believe. On Monday there was supposedly no noise but then it was stated the place was closed on Monday.

Other than the poster here asking about it, I have not seen any more mention of it.

I am quite familiar with the are I am staying in. I just have read that a lot has changed and just of recent. There are several people complaining. I like to stay where there is action,,,bars, music, etc. But there is something called respect for others, i.e. businesses, vacationers, etc. I would hope, whatever is going on, that we could expect to be able to go to bed by 2am without being rumbled in our beds by loud bass beats coming from cars or businesses for that matter. Simpson Bay area is great for us that like to be able to walk to many various nightlife venues....I get it. I just am a little leary of all the complaints I am reading about. If sxm wants to bring back tourists to the island, then maybe this situation should be monitored a little. ?? Hate to be negative, but cannot help by what I am hearing. Not going to stop me from coming back at this point, Place is booked and we will hope for the best. What is Roxxy's? Carol mentioned it was opening in January.

Roxxy Beach is in the same area so if they generate noise, you will hear that slso. It will be a large beach bar complex.

ROXXY BEACH

Regarding "all the complaints" you referred to about this. I read the same posts and from what I recall there were one or two people who mentioned it (a week or two ago) and now it is spreading like wildfire.

The fact it has been asked elsewhere by multiple people and there is no recent confirmation it is still happening, perhaps the incident has been addressed and all is well.

One person currently staying at Atrium implied they hear very little after 8:00pm.

That story says that, even with special parties, Roxxy will close by 1 AM. Even that is a little late for me, but I'm an old fogie… grin

This could have been a one time impromptu party that just kept getting bigger. Might happen again and might not.

Are you talking about Roxxy, or whatever the original post was about?

Whats the story on this Roxy place? On Kin sha beach? Oh great another La bamba? We were so happy when they tore down La bamba. Their music went til about 1 am also. Condo vibrating bass is not what condo owners sigh up for . Hope this does not take place.

Yes, I agree the original post probably was about a one of a kind thing. Roxxy is going to open in January, construction well underway apparently.

Several people at the SBR and Atrium have been having a long drawn conversation about this "new" noise. Bon Apetite temporary location on Kim Sha beach have had patrons walking away in the day time because they could not stand the noise. It is more a problem than you may think . I have heard from one person at Atrium that said when she stayed in April it wasn't a problem. So...with the numbers complaining it just makes me a little gun-shy. Here's hoping that it is just the normal, bar music, which most certainly should end by 2am. I am not a prude. I love to stay up and have fun. But after that,,,,i really would like to be able to sleep. By the sounds of what I am reading, it most certainly is by the rib shack and also locals who are saying to people...don't be so stupid,,go somewhere else, Simpson Bay is the heart of it. Duh, I know that, have stayed there several times in the past. But this is "new" noise and not being well received.

(not a great idea for locals to support this new noise and tell tourists to go elsewhere?) SXM needs tourism after the destruction and devastation Irma delivered. I tried to reason with someone on private messages and the message was clear....by not one, but three individuals,,,go elsewhere. Very poor.

Sometimes just driving by Captain D's will shatter your ear drums. And that's in the daytime!

Bill and elaine, that's really too bad that they cannot be respectful enough for others than themselves. I am sure they have some followers, but the majority I would guess do not like music that loud. It's really unfortunate for places beside or near them. When and if they ever get Royal Palm open, I might think twice about staying there, as that I assume is pretty close as well. Unfortunate, but many people are frustrated with it. Thanks for your comment, I like first hand info.

I see Roxxy Beach is advertising for DJ's and bartenders. They're getting close to opening.

We were at the Atrium for the past three weeks. The noise was really bad especially one night. Music was blasting till 4 in the morning. Other nights not too bad. Mainly on weekends. I am surprised the police at the station which is very close did not hear it.

Did you complain to the folks at the Atrium? I know in the past that the police have addressed noise complaints in that area.

Complaining to the Atrium front desk really won't do anything. They have no power either.

You need to call the police. I understand there may be a noise ordinance?

Well, the point is for the Atrium management to complain to the police, because of multiple complaints from their guests. If one person complains to the front desk, no big deal. But if they can say that 20 people actually complained, then they have something they can say to the police. The police will not listen to a single tourist complaint, in all likelihood. And yes there supposedly is a noise ordinance, as I know in the past Indiana's were shut down early because of noise complaints, as well as La Bamba.

I often hear noise down there, but have no idea where it's coming from. Doesn't really bother me when we're inside in the a/c. If it were close, yes, like El Zafiro, I would be raising cain….

We heard a bit of music and noise most nights when staying at BSV the past 2 weeks, but honestly, it was minimal outside....and once inside, we didn't hear it at all.

Edited to add: we thought it was coming from Karakter.

Please read the prior responses in this thread. There are I think two separate responses in this thread with links talking about Roxxy.

Roxy is being constructed on Kim Sha Beach close to the Royal Palm. The owners of the former Le Sand are building here.
