First I would like to say to everyone who answered all of my questions a sincere thank you. All of your advice and suggestions were very helpful.
My best friend and I are both 30 and wanted to get away from hectic NYC for a week for some relaxation and sun. We kind of picked St Martin on a whim not knowing too much about it but I have to say that we absolutely LOVED it[Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image]
We stayed at the Maho Beach Resort. A few people on the board had told me that they did not like the hotel but we liked it. I highly recommend that if you stay there get a room in the Ocean Terrace building. The Sky tower building seemed to be much louder and more crowded. We got a free upgrade to a deluxe ocean view room in the Ocean Terrace which was very quiet, had great views, and the pool was always empty.
I recommend that you don't get the all-inclusive plan. We only ate at the hotel once and it was just okay. There are so many great restaurants to try in St Martin why be tied to just one place! I have become addicted to French food and can honestly say that we did not have a bad meal on the island.
We loved the beaches in St Martin unfortunately there wasn't enough time to vist all of them! Some of you might remember my earlier post "The Naked Truth" . I really did not mind the nudity at Orient Beach I was too busy enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean.
While there we also did a day trip to Anguilla, which I highly recommend especially when there are alot of cruise ships in port. We loved Shoal Bay in Anguilla which was pretty much empty the day we visited. It's very easy to do on your own if you don't want to sign up for one of those packages.
At night we went dancing our favorite spots were The Q club and Bliss. The music was a nice mix of Hip Hop, reggae, house and a little merengue. Check out Bliss because it's outside right on the beach. It's very cool to be dancing under the stars and listening to waves as well as dance music.
If anyone needs extra pampering try the Good Life Spa at the Maho. We had the most wonderful massages and facials there.
I was a little concerned about the people in St Martin several people had told me that they found people somewhat rude. With the exception of a few French women, everyone there (especially the men) were very friendly and helpful. Please remember also that you are in the Caribbean, people are never in a hurry and service is much more relaxed!
Lastly I will say for all you single ladies out there. St Martin is NOT the place to go if you have a boyfriend! The French men are outrageously flirts but you certainly will enjoy the attention. We did!
Please let me know if any other first timers have questions!
