Just got my renewed passport in the mail today. Was surprised it came so quickly with the Christmas holiday and partial government shutdown. Mailed it on December 18.

Sounds good. Wondering if you or anyone else knows if you expedite it, how is it sent back to you. US Mail? Priority?

Mine came back Priority in a priority hard envelope. I did opt for the card to which will be mailed separately along with a separate mailing of my old passport.

Elaine,
When we lived there we needed passport renewal and we mailed them with SASE FEDEX to Curacao.
Embassy processed them and we had them back in 4 weeks.
Cheers

But where do they send it to? We have no postal service anymore.

To my home address. I can't remember if there is an option to have it sent to another address, PO Box number or mail service like the Mail Box. Try calling 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793. They actually answer with a live person. Hope that helps.

Is it possible to do it through FedEx with a prepaid return FedEx? Or DHL who I think also has a presence on the island.

Respectfully,

I'm just curious as PSS still has an office over on Pond Island. The USPS still has Sint Maarten listed as a country you can ship to. Do they don't just deliver directly to the residence now?

Elaine,
It was FedEx to us at Yacht Club.
They were near each other.
Cheers

Irina, were you able to get a cashiers check for US dollars here?

I don't remember how we did that part. Probably. We had an account at ScotiaBank.
But really can't remember. Sorry.

Doesn't someone from the U.S. Consulate in Curacao visit Sint Maarten regularly to provide services to US citizens like passport renewals? I know I have seen advertisements listing when they visit Sint Maaten. For people in Curacao, they let them pay in Guilders or Dollars, so I couldn't see why they wouldn't do the same when they come to Sint Maarten. I've also found where the Consulate in Barbados sends someone to the French Side as well.

Yes, they do. But not necessarily when you need them. They do not take cash.

Just curious--the French consulate is in Barbados? I would have thought it would have been in Guadelupe or Martinique.

I would have thought so too, but apparently consular affairs for US Citizens on the french side are handled out of Barbados, as the embassy there handles Barbados, the eastern Caribbean, and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. Dutch side is still handled by Curacao since Sint Maarten is part of the Dutch Kingdom.
