Is Andy's seafood restaurant rebuilding? I know that I had mussels ala Andy there the last time I visited. They were a very nice couple from the East Coast. Sorry, I don't remember the exact name of the restaurant.

Thanks,

Britt

In a word, no. First, Andy passed away a few years ago. Second, I'm not even sure if Cheryl is still on island. And third, where those restaurants were, the Collectivite' is still scr*wing around with even re-leasing the properties since Irma, which is now something like 16 months ago.

Sorry to hear about Andy. I hope Cheryl is doing well wherever she is staying.

I think Cheryl is living in England as that is where Roger, her husband is from. They were in SXM in the fall for a visit.

Miss that place... So many memories! The mussels were so good. RIP Andy... The carbets in the same area will rebuild. 🍴

Thanks,

Alas Andy has passed and yes I do believe Cheryl has remarried and has moved across the pond to Merry old England. The restaurant ( Baywatch) is gone , long before Irma, but that section of Orient will be back !

Try the mussels at Mark's Place. Call first as they don't always have them.

Very much agree. Very good, reasonably priced and a huge portion. Don;t be afraid to substitute the house pasta for french fries if you so desire.

I've never had Andy's mussels but cook them all the time. Can anyone let me know the essence of Andy's version?

Hopefully Louise (fabila) will see this and respond. I think she has tried to duplicate the recipe.

We always get the pasta instead of the fries. Yum

Andy & Cheryl's was one of the landmark places on Orient forever it seemed. I loved that place. Andy would cook in the back and appear only to swear at something. Ha! Ha! He was a marine in his previous life and he acted the part. Cheryl would sit at your table while taking your order and make you feel like you were the most special people on the island and to her you were. The food was remarkably excellent every time. They had menus with photos of the their most special customers on the front. We made the cover and felt like celebrities. (: It is easily one of the things that I miss the most on SXM. And his mussels were some of the best that I ever had in my life.

We agree completely! Andy was a (supposedly) “Gruff guy” cook on the surface with a heart of gold below decks... and Cheryl was the perfect hostess / waitress / person who was REALLY in charge / welcoming committee of one and she defined “great customer service” !

The food and customer service were both wonderful! Oh how we miss them! RIP Andy...you earned your place in heaven...probably still serving “Andy’s Mussels” to a new clientele.

As in, just as a side dish or as a substitute for french fries? I do not recall being charge when substituting but I would expect a charge if/when ordered as side dish alone.

When we requested to have it "substituted" it was billed as a side dish that time. I didn't question it as it wasn't a big charge.

Agree-Andy was certainly gruff but a real great guy underneath that exterior! Barb & I often stopped in for breakfast and occasionally lunch-it was always excellent! One morning many years ago when it wasn’t busy he sat with us for quite sometime and told us the story of his recently discovered (to him) daughter. He was so proud! It was especially poignant since my wife had recently discovered that she had an older sister that she had not known about. It made for an interesting breakfast conversation to say the least! Cheryl was also a genuine sweetheart! I hope she’s happy and is doing well. Andy-RIP-I hope the four winds blew you safely home!

Cheryl showed Sandy how to make the sauce for Andy's mussel's. Of coarse Cheryl was making several gallons, and Sandy was furiously trying to write down the recipe while Cheryl made the sauce. It is quite complicated since it is really two separate sauces which are then combined. Sandy has pretty much got it down, but does not make it often enough because it is so time consuming.

Well played volley Tom, i was gonna chime in how this went from Andy to Cheryl to Mussels to Marks place to pasta to fries back to pasta and boy do I like tangents.

RIP Andy and Best wishes to Cheryl. While many people had many places they would leave Club O for, this was the only place we left for at the beginning. No need to go further.

I cant really imagine Andy and Cheyrls in one of the those new ready-made, Carbet little boxes. Lacks the beach shack motif.
