We have done the BVIs a couple times on bareboat PCs (I think a 393PC the first time and then a 514PC the second). We love it. Thinking about another trip and researching the Seychelles. Has anyone out there done both that can give me a comparison? Cruising time between islands, snorkeling, bay comparisons?

We have bareboated twice in the Seychelles and 4 times in the BVI. These are very different cruising grounds.

Seychelles is absolutely stunning, The beaches and scenery are amazing as is the snorkeling. When we were there we often had beaches and anchorages to ourselves.

The anchorage’s in the Seychelles were often pretty exposed and rolly. Weather is much less predictable than the BVI. Longer distances and more open ocean sailing between anchorages.

It has been a few years since we last sailed in the Seychelles, and at the time provisioning was a little more challenging than the BVI is today.

Choose your dates carefully as we once cruised there for 21 days in December and it rained for 18 days.

Having said all of the above, Seychelles is an amazing sailing area and I highly recommend it.

How timely this post is!!!

We just got back from spending a few weeks in Kenya visiting Nick and Monica and really looking into a possible visit to Seychelles when we return again next year..did a safari this trip which was amazing but always looking for different things.

A couple from .switzerland on our safari told us that Seychelles was incredible.

I've chartered BVI once (again next month), Whitsundays, Bay of Islands, and now Seychelles is on my short list. I would love to make it an equator crossing if at all possible and want to cruise the Amirante Bank. These may likely require a Captain. Looked into it a lot and just need to carve out dates 2021 is probably first opportunity. From what I read July is a pretty favorable month.

Great information. Thank you. We love the protected bays, the snorkeling and deserted beaches. We are not so into the open water.... We are thinking of a April 2020 trip. What was the other tome you have been?

We sailed there in September as well. No rain, but fairly brisk winds on a few days. Definitely a better time of the year compared to December.
