Great news! AA just announced a new once/weekly flight from MIA-FDF starting in April. (Why April when the season is winding down?)

Hopefully, this will continue into the winter season next year and allow many of us to take advantage of it.

A couple of years back I went on Delta through Atlanta, but that flight is long discontinued.

This is great news for Martinique afficionados!

And I hear that USAir & AA will be merging.

My daughter did part of her college on Martinique, and one of my best friends was stationed there when he was in the French army. Sure would love to see it one day.

Air France still flies from Miami to Martinique. We have taken that flight and it has 1 stop in Haiti. Otherwise the flights are ok.

Martinique is a fantastic island to visit and VERY French.

Martinique is an incredible island. The people, pastries, breads and food in general are to die for.

We had main sail issues and had to put in there for 2 weeks, what hardship. The kind folks close to the marina’s for the most part spoke both English and French but continuing inland mostly just French. Even with the language barrier they where warm and inviting and we had no problem getting what’s needed.

I ran into a U.S. couples at a local Leader Price supermarket that were bichin that no one spoke English. Jerks, you chose to visit their island. At that point I could understand some of the stereotype and distain abroad for the US. I on the other hand was feeling crummy for not being more fluid in French.

Now that there is more options for air transport – Go, but as said be patient as it is very French.

Well, that's silly. That's one of the benefits, not a negative. I mean, France is "very French", and it attracts 80 million foreign tourists per year!

If one wants to speak English more than half of the Caribbean islands have English as the first language...

Also, thanks to a money pump from Paris, Martinique has one of the best economies in the Caribbean.

I think I could manage pretty well:

"un ti punch s'il vous plait"

"ou est le WC"

What else do you need to know? I've had the pleasure of driving through most of France w/o speaking French, and I managed somehow.

My favorite phrase when learning nasals during my year as a French major:
"Un bon vin blanc."

Vive la France!

Martinique is very nice. Went there for our Honeymoon. Liked it better than Guadaloupe.
Good food and yes, you can get by with a little french pas problem.
Bon Chance

Just priced a RT from LAX to PTP $650/PERSON-short connection time in Miami-11hr total travel time on 737s.

Too bad that wasn't around last year for our charter, guess I could go again, hard to get enough of Iles de Saintes!
