Looking for input from folks who usually use cash while on the island. We are wondering what is the biggest bill you have found that businesses will take. We're a little concerned that no one will take a $50 or $100 bill. Hate to take just a bunch of $20's but if that's all they will take we need to be prepared.

Thanks for help.

Leaving for island one week from today. Can't wait!!!

Our experience is they take $50's & $100. We asked one place if they took $100 bills. They asked why wouldn't we. They are happy for cash. I don't have anything over the $100 bills though. 😁
Enjoy your time!

I bring 100's 50's 20's 10's 5's and 1's They take them all. Gas stations don't like 100's nor do the beach bars but will eventually take them as long as not much change is to be given back.

Our ATM delivers $50's and we have never had a problem. Big bills are sometimes difficult to use early in the business day or at smaller establishments.

Never ever had a problem with big bills. My problem is seeing them disappear so fast and that's just on eating!

We found this past October that it was better to charge your bills on the French side, but charge them in Euros. Our credit card co. allows us to do so and has a good rate, usually better than the restaurant or store will have. We pay cash on the Dutch side. I will pay cash on both sides if it is for something that is $20 or less.

Sometimes places on French side do 1 to 1 for US dollars. In that case its best to pay in cash.

We also bring $2 bills to leave extra when tips included. Everyone seems to love them. They think they are good luck.

We are here for two weeks and brought mostly 50’s and 100,s figuring our dinners would cost somewhere between the two and only places asking for smaller bills , which we have, were pharmacy, and small stores.

Last June I had one beach vendor refuse the tip in $2 bills that I was trying to give him. He said the banks wouldn't accept $2 bills. Everywhere else seemed to appreciate them.
